F B Meekins Cooperative Preschool

As a mom that works outside the home I was worried a co-op would be too much, third child later and we are STILL at Meekins! :-) Meekins has given me an opportunity to meet moms from the community, be involved within the school, and see my children grow in a warm and loving environment. Meekins has given each of our three children a wonderful environment to transition into school within a loving, structured but play filled teaching community.

Great school that focuses on play-based learning. As a co-op, the parents are very involved with the school and it results in a very close school community. The teachers are very nurturing while at the same time teaching age appropriate life skills. Althought it is not an academic intensive approach to learning, the kids are very well prepared for Kindergarten and sometimes even more so then their peers.

Meekins was a great place for my children to have their first experience at school. The teachers were engaging and excited every day to see my children. The cooperative experience provided a community that I never saw with other preschools and was a warm and nurturing environment for the kids as well as the parents. Our whole family loves Meekins!

My three children all started their school careers at Meekins. The nurturing teachers, close-knit community, and play-based approach to learning helped shape them into the curious middle and high school students they are today. Meekins is a fabulous place for kids to learn through play. The school has been in Vienna for more than 50 years and many of the teachers are long time staff (as well as parents of Meekins before that!). Meekins provides a safe, loving, learning environment for kids and we've really enjoyed the sense of community it offers for the whole family. We've also loved the ability to be a part of our children's school on a regular basis and to show them that we are committed to their education. Meekins really fosters well balanced kids who have the opportunity to expand their minds and gain independence through play. Two of our kids have moved on to elementary school and more than ready for what is expected of them.

FB Meekins Cooperative Preschool is a wonderful preschool for those who want to be involved in their children's education and community. I love being able to spend time in my daughter's classroom and getting to know her friends and their families. It is a truly warm wonderful community for children AND grown-ups! The learning through play philosophy has been supported by research as a great way to cultivate creativity, problem solving, and independence, as well as school readiness. It has certainly do so for my daughter!

Our daughters are now in 1st and 4th grades and we continue to believe that F. B. Meekins Cooperative Pre-school provided the absolute best start a parent could hope for! The teachers were well above expectations. All teachers, staff and even parents knew our girls and us and that added benefit was invaluable. Our Kindergarten teacher told us repeatedly that she could always tell the kids who came from Meekins -- their preparation and readiness to learn were extremely obvious. As new parents, the connections made with other parents helped my husband and I to grow in ways that continue to add to how we raise our daughters. The comeraderie among parents who grew together as their kids were young has continued as we stay in touch or happen upon these parents we knew years ago. My husband and I continue to promote Meekins to those parents who want to consider a true partnership in their child's learning and growing. We did and we couldn't have made a better choice.

Meekins is a wonderful community! Parents are actively involved in their preschoolers education assisting teachers in the classroom and helping to run all areas of the school. The caring staff encourage children to learn through various play based activities like: dramatic play, puzzles/blocks, science experiments, arts and crafts and field trips. If you are looking for a preschool education that encourages creativity and play (not worksheets and flashcards), than Meekins is for you!
