First Steps Child Care Center3

We had our children at First Steps for several months. We liked the location of the facility, with easy access to the highways. The level of care seemed good and our children grew attached to their providers. There did seem to be a lot of staff turnover though, and we were affected. Negatives - from day one, the director seemed frazzled with emergencies. This caused our billings to be consistently wrong and overbilled, as she did not communicate aspects of our account to her bookkeeper. The director claimed that she never received several emails from me. And there was an inadequate attempt to share information on sicknesses. We didn't receive notice of Croup within the facility until several weeks after an employee told me that her child (in our classroom) had Croup. Our children got it as well.
My son, now 2-1/2, has attended First Steps Learning Academy since he was 3 months old. As a former pre-school teacher, I immediately recognized the value of their systems as compared with some pre- kindergarden programs. Since his start, our son has been cared for by loving teachers who are invested in his development and well being. We have held positive and communicative relationships with them and believe that this parent-teacher relationship has contributed to his healthy development. He loves his school, friends and teachers and we sometimes have a hard time getting him to leave. The pediatrician continues to be impressed by his social and educational development, yet our son seems to be in the pack with his peers, so we contribute some of this to the school's kind and personalized, but structured teaching environment. Also, since the children are given a pre-school style routine since the baby room, they have a strong understanding of teamwork, schedule and following rules. Not all pre-kindergarden programs are the same and First Steps is a shining example.
My child attended First Steps for more than five years - beginning when he was three months until he started kindergarten. The school cares about children and families - it is apparent in nearly everything they do. My child was loved, thrived in every way, and was more than prepared for kindergarten. There were some minor bumps along the way (there always is - perfection does not exist), but the challenges only proved to highlight the character of the school and those who run it. I recommend this school without reservation.
My husband and I absolutely love First Steps! Our daughter has thrived in the school and the teachers have been an invaluable resource to our family. Since we came in a couple years ago as infant parents, we were looking for 1) a preschool that really loved children 2) a place where my daughter would be happy and 3) a place we could trust. I'm happy to say we made the right choice. Our only minor complaint is we wish they had a bigger playground for the older children, but they compensate for this by taking the children on scheduled monthly field trips year round and random trips to nearby parks. The school is run by a husband and wife team who clearly have a heart for working with young children. The academics are just right. Our daughter was reading when she graduated from the 4's class.
