Evergreen Montessori School5

We are so happy with Evergreen. Coming from an area with authentic Montessori, it was refreshing to see a school with a complete set of materials and actual Montessori training. The teachers are lovely. They care about the children, often asking about pets or events that happened at home. It makes me feel so good that there is such a sense of community there. The building they are housed in could be better, but they work so hard to make it work, you really don't notice it. My children have learned so much. The mathematics are far beyond grade level and the things they learn in the garden are mind blowing. My kids were reading early and read way above grade level. I highly recommend Evergreen. You will love it as much as we do. We are being transferred again and I hate to think of leaving.
My sons have attended the school for the past two years. Teachers at the school are fantastic! I was a bit worried when they told me that my two year-old boys would not be wearing diapers because they would toilet train them in 1-2 weeks. Done...my sons were finished with diapers within 2 weeks of starting at the school. Pros & cons of the school: Pros: *Teachers really care and they come up with lots of different activities to expose the children to different experiences. *Kids love the yoga classes for 3-4 year olds *They offer vegetarian and non-vegetarian food options *Diverse, international students-children from many different countries attend the school *Offer other activities after school such as gymnastics, soccer, and ballet at extra charge from companies that come to the school. *They offer pre and after school care so it works well for working parents Cons: *The school is located in the administration building of a church so it is not as fancy as some other schools in newer facilities but this hasn't been an issue. *Playground is surrounding the church grounds and has been fixed up nicely but is not as fancy as some schools. It has worked well for my family.
I had many issues with the school biggest ones being: 1. With tuition as high as any other private school, the building and security is very below expectations. The main gate stayed open many times and no one around to watch the comings and going with kids standing in hallway or looking through the door as parents leave kids. 2. I found kids unsupervised many times. No one checks ID if a new person comes to pick them up. 3. The morning hand off is not at all handled well. I left my son confused on the playground or hallway so many times. 4. No schedule: I have year long schedules for both kids from both their new schools listing meetings, picture days, holidays, vacations, trips. I never knew the schedules, agendas or what they did during the day. 6.Too much asking for volunteering on weekends. 7. muddy yard in the frony that is HIGHLY UNSAFE with just a wooden door 8. Too much attitude and not receptive at all about concerns or questions. 9. summer session had no schedule what so ever. Many times I waited for 20 minutes after 8.30 because no one showed up on time to open school. If u are stay at home, u are fine or else u will be very confused here.
I totally agree, with the exception that I think most day care centers would provide better supervision of children than this school does. Parents who express concern are treated as if they are the problem instead of the school making efforts to improve the supervision and safety of the children. The school's encouragement of parent involvement is to require parent volunteer hours and/or donations. When I volunteered or donated, I was never thanked or encouraged to be present on a routine basis in my child's classroom.
