Montessori Of Mt Pleasant5

I have a 4 and a 5 year old who have been at MMP since they were 3 months old. We could not be happier with the turn out. The school and teachers have both exceeded my expectations. The owners, as well as the teachers there go far beyond their call of duty as educators. They coach soccer teams, taught my son to surf, and host events where they have opened up their home to the families and students at the school. They have worked hard at building solid relationships with our children. Being a family with 2 working parents is hard enough, but when you your child is excited to go to school, it helps tremendously. I wish they could go there longer, but am glad that they are getting a great start for at least the first 6 years of their life.
I am a father of two: a Kindergarten and 3 year old. Both of my children have been with the school since infancy. The level of involvement and care my children have received has been outstanding and my son is reading well above grade level and doing multiplication (really), but that's not why we are so pleased with the program. Both children have had one consistent, experienced teacher the first three years and, again- in the 3-6 program. The school did undergo changes few years ago including hours of operation. It didn't make everyone happy. They do offer some after school until 5pm. But- ask any teacher there what they hope the children will be at graduation and I doubt you'll get a reply relating to test scores. This school's approach is more holistic.
Our oldest child went to this school, and our younger ones were also enrolled. Our older child, came out in the bottom 10% of students nationally on the standardized academic assessments. Sure this school will let your child make lavendar saches, and dig in the garden dirt, but in terms of educational readiness, I cannot recommend it. After a year in the public school system and a lot of work by his teachers and parents, he now scores in the 98%. He had the ability, just wasn't provided with the skills he needed. Additionally, they are chronically understaffed, and they are only open from 8-4, so if you work full time don't bother. Also they don't follow the CCSD calendar AT ALL. MMP closes randomly.
We moved to Mt Pleasant to have our children attend this preschool! The program has exceeded our expectations with sustainabile living experiences, spanish emerision, year 'round gardening- I could go on... The faculty is a resource to parents and offer many opportunities after school to meet and discuss parenting concerns as a group. We feel fortunate to have found a school that truly follows the child and helps us parents make sure we are providing them the best start in life.
