The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.
I am a parent of two children that attended pine hills montessori for several years. I was extremely pleased with the academics, independence, level of respect for parents and teachers but then we went through several directors as well as teachers. Our experience went from wonderful to disastrous. With the present Director at this school I would not send any of my children or recommend PHMDC to anyone.
PHM is a small neighborhood school and a rare find in the Capital Region. PHM offers a balance between a traditional daycare/preschool and an academic environment. The classroom encourages children to be independent, curious individuals while being respectful, tolerant, and considerate of others. Music, dance, and Spanish are an integral part of the program and the teachers make use of the variety of local theatres, museums, libraries. The Kindergarten program is small and offers extraordinary individual attention. All the children were reading well before the end of the year. The community is racially, economically, and religiously diverse and parents are actively involved in the classroom. This school is the best kept secret in Albany.
My daughter has been at Pine Hills Montessori for 2 years and we couldn't be happier. The staff is fantastic and the program is academic, without pressuring the children to learn. The kids are very self-directed and encourgaged to find and explore their own interests. My daughter is one of several 4 year olds reading. I'm very excited for her to start in the K program next year!
