My oldest child went to Catalina Methodist from 15 months until we left for kindergarten. I was pleased with the care we received...my child was always happy and (for the most part)loved the teachers. I too found the front desk staff to be unfriendly and inflexible to work with, as the other person who commented. I also found some of the teachers to be hard and not as loving as I would like. My older child is very bold and confident and would not/ did not have any trouble telling me if there was a problem. My younger child is more shy and requires more love and attention. For my younger one, Catalina is not the right fit. I suppose it just depends on the child. When my oldest was 15 months, I would have given Catalina 5 starts but after dealing with the unfriendly front desk...after 3 1/2 years, I give them 3 stars and say every child is different so what was right for my older child isn't necessarily right for my younger.
The school is clean and orderly and generally good but I have two primary concerns. Dee at the front desk is not a very pleasant person. She rarely smiles and she is very inflexible and unwilling to work with families. Once I saw her on the phone with a mom who was concerned about her 1 year old daughter and she wanted a report that she was doing ok. When she was on the phone with her, she was rolling her eyes! I really don't like interacting with Dee and her superior attitude on a daily basis. My second concern is that one day as I was picking up my child, there was another child there who was crying crying crying (belly cry with deep breaths in between sobs). Both day care providers completely ignored her. I understand that this little 2 year old may have been in time out or something but she CLEARLY needed comforting. They did not offer an explanation for why they were not tending to her when it was clear that I was concerned.
CMDS sets a high bar! Class sizes are small and focus on the kids is top priority for them. Lots of variety in their day with outdoor play, trike yard, library visits, etc. Teachers and administration is very approachable and willing to work with any concerns you may have.
We absolutely LOVE CMDS!!! The staff is attentive, knowledgable, creative and most importantly they truly care about the children. We appreciated the diversity in the student population and we enrolled our older child in their summer program. The facility is very clean and the staff attends continuing education classes to keep up to date on early childhood education. CMDS shows they are invested in your children and keeps a happy staff. Happy Staff=Happy Children.
