What a wonderful neighborhood school. Our son was in preschool, preK, and now the before/after school program here. He loves Small Faces for it's teachers, other kids, wonderful playground, many field trips, and extracurricular activities. We are very happy.
Our daughter was at Small Faces from the time she was three until she went to Kindergarten. We had an excellent experience at Small Faces, and loved the discovery classroom last year. The teachers were warm and wonderful. My child grew and learned so much under their care. She was very prepared for Kindergarten, both socially and academically. The curriculum is play based, which is what we wanted. For example, the teachers would help my child make books of her writings and drawings, which encouraged her to write more. We loved the program and endorse it highly. Also, it has an awesome playground and cook!
A painfully sad and traumatic experience for our child. Our child entered in the 5's class (Discovery room). We experienced a lack of genuine interest in the children or inspiration in the teaching by the two teachers and they were not engaging. One child bullied children and injured them (bruised abdomen causing incontinence, bloodied noses, scraped up knees when pushed down). Not only were parents never informed when children were injured, but the teachers did nothing to address the bullying behavior effectively. Also, the director completely mishandled the bully situation, displaying a lack of leadership and complete disregard for our bullied child's mental well-being. A child must feel safe and cared for in order to thrive. This was not the case. Small Faces has lost all that it built it's reputation on. With the loss of it's accreditation and the retirement of the founder, it has gone down the drain in our opinion. It has failed our family miserably and left a lasting emotional scar on our child.
We have been very happy with Small Faces in general. They are flexible and stress learning through play. My kids are very happy here. We had some concerns about a teacher who seemed less involved, but our son thrived nonetheless and continues to enjoy school. Great sense of community if you make the effort.
