It's probably listed that way because it operates on the property of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte. There is a relationship between the two, but they are separate entities with separate staff and board members. Students or their families do not need to be members of the church to attend. I'm not sure why the description lists this school as religious because it's not. In fact, it's very secular and they do no celebrate any holidays. It's progressive education with an emphasis on the child exploring his/her world and making their own sense of it. The teachers don't tell the kids what to do, they guide them towards making the right decisions. My son has been going here since he was two and we LOVE it. I really can't say enough about it. The teachers are caring and patient, the director has been there forever and genuinely loves children. It very much is like a big family.
