My 2 children have been through the Mulford School. We could not be happier with the school. The curriculum is highly structure, followed consistently by all teachers, creating a comfortable environment children know what to expect and what is expected of them. Much of the learning is accomplished through finger plays (poems recited with hand motion) and songs, tied into monthly themes and reinforced through art projects. My children came home reciting long finger plays, with great vocabulary and concepts. I was amazed! Songs learned during music time have become part of our family, coming back to us each season a we celebrate holidays. Children lead finger plays during listening time, and perform in Easter, Christmas, and end of year programs on stage. Both of my children became comfortable speaking in front of groups. The helping parent program allows a parent hands on experience on how the students learn day to day. Every day I had the opportunity to talk to my child s teacher when I picked them up. Mrs. Mulford, the director, puts her heart and soul into the school, you will never find someone that genuinely cares more about teaching children lessons needed to succeed in life.
The Mulford School has been a wonderful experience for my whole family. My three older children have attended the school and my youngest is presently enrolled. After finishing at the Mulford School, my children were at the year end benchmark for Kindergarten before they even started Kindergarten. The education, individual attention and loving atmosphere makes this a great school.
While our child's teacher was very kind and nurturing, the school was a huge disappointment. We expected a lot more, given the tuition and facilities. The program and materials are extremely outdated. The director is rude to parents on a regular basis. They serve unhealthy snacks. Parents are not welcome at all and there are very few opportunities for parent involvement. There is no communication. I had no idea what or how my child was doing until a conference in late May, right before school was about to end. Teachers do not supply e-mail addresses and there are no newsletters. If you call the school, you get an answering machine most of the time. Sadly, the children did not get to experience the animals and full property until the very last day of school. The teachers seem to really care about the kids, but are forced to follow Mrs. Mulford's unyielding, ancient program. The only positives were the large, wooded playground and our individual teacher.
What a fabulous school! The atmosphere is loving yet structured the children learn to be polite and kind to each other. And, the teaching style is very effective every 3 year old can recite the Pledge of Allegiance within a month of starting school. The playground is very spacious and filled with fun things like swings, a sand pile and climbing structures. Also, there is a barn with ponies, dogs, chickens and cats to visit right on the other side of the fence. Truly, Mulford School is a treasure!
