The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.
I really liked the teachers here but the administration was abysmal. I had terrible experiences the first year with one director. Then she left and there was no real leadership the following year. In addition, the first year, I signed up for their Parent Involvement Committee. During the very first meeting, I witnessed one member berate another member publicly. It was downhill from there. My child enjoyed the teachers, and the second year was not as bad as the first. Still, the leadership is lacking and the general feeling is that the higher ups simply don't care about much but the bottom dollar. I too have seen many good teachers leave this place. Also, academically, it is severely lacking. We are going to a different school next year.
I don't know what is going on with the higher ups at the JCC but something is very wrong because teachers are fleeing the school! The school does not have a director and they have actually had several directors over the last few years. Why don't the directors stay? Why are good teachers leaving? As a parent, I don't know what kind of early education my children are receiving especially since the administration can't even keep good teachers and parents don't have a director to talk to! This is scary. Avoid this school!
I decided to submit my comment in large part because my experience has been completely different from the one star reviews (though everyone is entitled to their opinion). My son began JCC ECC at the age of 3 years, 4 months. It was his first time in preschool. His teachers are terrific, engaging, welcoming, cheerful and patient. His first project was MLK friendship hands, followed by baking cinnamon challah rolls. He has music (and song), swim class (in an amazing facility), gym, and special projects. We like the diversity of the student body (i.e. from different countries, background and religions), but there's an emphasis and introduction to wonderful Jewish holidays and traditions. My interactions with the administrative staff have been very good, and we are greeted by name every morning. Most importantly, my son is thriving, making friends, socializing and learning in a supportive environment. That's really all I could ask from a preschool center. I've decided to enroll my second son next year.
The facilities are great(pool, gym, outdoor space), but I agree with other parents that say the administration is lacking focus and clarity. For the cost the JCC ECC really needs to start improving. My child has been there for less than one year and I've seen two directors come and go.
