My daughter just finished kindergarten at Parker. Her teacher was great but I really didn't like the fact that there were no parties at Parker. No Halloween parties, no dressing up ,no parades.A 'thanks for giving' party for Thanksgiving. Nothing for Christmas. No Valentines' party with Valentines for her friends...I felt she lost out on a part of childhood that my older children and I experianced and treasured while attending Rockford public schools.

I moved to this school district last year and I have a son that has aspergers syndrome. Thanks to the teachers at Parker my son excelled last year and is looking forward to starting school at Rock Cut Elementary this fall. I am very pleased to have my younger daughters starting at Parker, I know the their teachers will be amazing with them

This is my son's last year at Parker Center...and I have been extremely pleased with this school. My one problem with Parker Center is that they only go up through Kindergarten...and not through high school! My son absolutely loves his teacher and the school...and I think it will be very hard for him to leave at the end of this year!

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
