The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.
We live in the neighborhood, and our 3-year-old has been there for about two months now. Before this, she spent a year in (heaven at) Anna Bing Arnold Children's Center at CSULA, and while Playgroup isn't nearly as posh as that kiddie wonderland, the staff and their early-childhood program have been great for her. She loves her new teachers and friends, and the small, intimate environment feels very safe, welcoming and cozy. There's lots of art-making, a reasonably structured daily schedule, and the kids there all seem very, very happy.
This is really a great place for small children to begin preschool. Several of the teachers have been there for over ten years, and they are very patient and attuned to the children's emotions and try to help them learn to express themselves. It was founded by the person who also started the Center for Nonviolent Education in Parent (CNVEP). The 'school' is wholly play-based, so very young kids get a good start with their socialization skills (although not so much Pre-K guidance). The classrooms could be a little bigger (in my opinion), but the kids spend a lot of time outdoors in a great play area surrounded by grape vines, on a quiet street where they are able to take 'nature walks.' Overall we had a really good experience and feel like we made some good friends in the community there.
