I don't know what was going on in previous years that prompted some negative reviews, but I can tell you my daughter had a fantastic experience in the preshool here (2011-2012). She is in Kindergarten now and reads at least 2nd grade level and is so far beyond the typical Kindergartener in every subject. Far more advance material is presented to these kids here and they really get a hug boost from it. Could not recommend it more highly.
As a former student, I can say the UVCS was a good foundation. I will always have the God centered values and principles taught to me. The basic ethics taught at this school (when I was there) have undoubtedly, benefited me as a person and my family. However, the quality of education I received was dismal. The mediocre and poor quality staff far outnumbered the good and my first year of college was a nightmare. A far better education would be at Roseburg High School where the staff is held accountable for their teaching.
The Education and individual attention each child receives is awesome. The teachers do an excellent job of teaching God Centered Values in all areas of life.
In terms of what the school sets out to achieve, this school does an excellent job. UVC students consistently score much higher on the collegiate entrance SAT tests than students in the state of Oregon and students in general nationally. UVC students also achieve significantly higher scores on the Standford Achievement Tests both on the state and national levels. UVC is a school in which character development is critical to the overall process of education. For those students and/or parents who are not concerned about administering the discipline needed for character development, this may be one of the most troublesome aspects about the school. It is true that there are areas of improvement the school needs to make, as in all schools, but overall, a parent will not waste their money by enrolling their children at UVC. It will be a good investment of their resources with a lifetime of reward.
As of recent graduates there is not much 'elevating' of children's minds. Just basic requirements if even that. As business owners ourselves, we have found no reason to send children to this school due to lack of training for the real world. Shouldn't we appreciate the diversity in others rather than only approving of those who think alike? The opposite is taught there. As for percentages mentioned... the classes are small, therefore not an accurate comparison to other schools. I would encourage parents to look elsewhere for their children as mine will never be subjected to this form of 'education'.
UVC teaches life s foundational principles and academic excellence that many students take for granted once they enter the 'real world' of work and adulthood after they graduate from public schools. Out of my graduating class 95% went on to college and of that, 90% graduated. For those who think that UVC teaches radical idealism, keep in mind that school is not intended to discipline students. It is there to elevate a child s mind and prepare them for life s future endeavors. With the rules that UVC has in place, one can see that the crime, teen pregnancy, and drug use is virtually non-existent. It is because of the education and principles that I learned at UVC that I can attribute my success to as an OSU alumni & international representative to an Oregon based company. I would encourage parents to give their children the option of attending UVC as mine did.
This is a great school. They try their best to achieve academic excellence and teach Christian values to students. I have two children that attend UVC and will be enrolling a third soon.
Honestly I dont believe this school is good for a child at all. They have unneeded rules and crazy ideas that I dont want in my childs head. I dont agree with many of the views of this radically invasive school
