I use to be able to suggest Sonshine to all my friends that were looking for care. Now, I don't. Once the director retired, a pastor in the church took over. Things have been a mess since. Not only have the fees and rates gotten out of control, but the quality of care has declined. The communication between staff is fragmented or non-existent. Many of the simple activities that are scheduled don't happen , some staff are not kind and loving, and appear to not even interact with the kids at all. I am frequently disappointed to arrive for my child and see the adults not even talking to any of the kids. Yes, this center is in a church, and, I wanted some religious component. I thought it would be limited to concepts my daughter could understand. At 7, she is told to believe all of it blindly.
I would have awarded more stars, but it seems the school has gone down hill in recent months. It was always a wonderful place for kids. Now it seems there is a total and complete communication break-down between staff and staff, and staff and parents.
I taught at Sonshine and know that it is filled with the Presence of God and the joy of the Holy Spirit. I got to experience that and share it every day--ahhhhh, awwwww, awe. There's so much more involved than just learning your alphabet or numbers, how to 'line-up', clean up, or sing 'n dance in circle time. SELC is/was/always will be the perfect place to send your dear, precious wee ones to be loved and taught. It's a happy serendipity in Central Point and I'm proud to rate it A+ and then some!
My daughter has grown by leaps and bounds while attending Sonshine. Her communication and social skills have improved greatly. This is a very good school for creating 'Good Kids'. Academics aside (which are way ahead of state standards), I would send her just for the personal development!
Sonshine is a wonderful preschool and daycare facility. Currently our second child is enrolled there. The care and dedication by this staff is tremendous! The preschool classtime is very age appropriate and the teachers are very in tune with each child's learning style. I love that our 4 year old son comes home singing songs about Jesus and has an understanding of who He is. Our older son attended Sonshine for two years and has great memories of his time there. It gave him great preparation academically and socially for starting public school the next year.
This school is fantastic for children. They offer preschool to 2 1/2 years and up (children must be potty-trained) The teachers, aides, and the director are amazing people. They provide and safe, nuturing, and enriching place for the children.
