Without know exactly what a Waldorf school was, my first visit to Briar Rose was welcoming and informative. Upon just walking in the door I felt a sense of comfort and hominess that turned into a complete sale of what the school has to offer. There is such a natural element to the learning there. Everything from the smell of wholesome foods cooking to the adventures that the garden holds helped us to make our decision to send our daughter there this fall. We are confident that under the staff s love and guidance that only good things will come of our preschool experience with Briar Rose.
I am so happy I found such a wonderful preschool for my daughter. The lead teacher has been there over 10 years and has patience, concern and respect for all the children. They learn how to cook, do laundry, sew - just like at home. My daughter pulls carrots from the garden and what she doesn't eat, she gives to the two classroom bunnies. On first glance, the facilities and play yard may not look like much, but have a child explain how the woven branches are a clubhouse and the path to the garden is an expedition in the jungle and the basket of well worn wood pieces is anything they can imagine. My daughter loves going to preschool each day and I wholeheartedly recommend Briar Rose.
My children were at this school for a whole year and they loved it. It follows a Waldorf curriculum and children get to spend plenty of time outside, doing things like climbing trees, planting a vegetable garden and playing in the sand/dirt. They also had an opportunity to engage in free play (supervised by the teachers of course, who dealt with conflict in a gentle, non-punitive, constructive manner, giving the children tools to learn to manage their own struggles). They helped cook their own meals (organic and free of food-coloring and corn syrup) and really loved to help do things like set the table (my children now do these chores at home and see them as a privilege -- they are 'table setters' and ask to wash dishes in soapy water). The teachers were wonderful and caring. I would recommend the school to any of my friends.
This is a great school, with kind, caring staff. It follows a Waldorf curriculum which means it uses free play, art, music, and everyday activities to help your child become ready for more focused school work later on. My children developed independence and self-reliance and loved their school.
Not only is the place dirty and unorganized the staff changes faster than I can keep up with. I see no advantages to this program what-so-ever.
There is no educational value involved with this facility. This is a complete waste of money.
