My 4 yo son just started at The Playhouse, and the difference it's made is amazing. He doesn't fight with me about going to school anymore. His previous school was very focused on preparing for kindergarten and spent a decent portion of the day on flash cards and worksheets. My son hated it, and he was beginning to dislike the entire notion of school. The Playhouse utilizes play-based learning. Counting, letters, and other concepts are woven into the days activities. It was pretty amazing to see how engaged the children were in counting out their crackers for snack. They also stress problem solving and social skills, including important life skills like conflict resolution and dealing with different personalities. The staff is warm and caring. They seem to truly enjoy their work and treat each child as an individual. Much of the time, the teachers are down on the floor playing with or reading to the kids. They really are a part of the activities, not just directing them. I highly recommend The Playhouse to anyone who wants their child(ren) to learn not only the ABCs but also how to function in a community.
