The Growing Place is a wonderful, nurturing educational environment. The small student teacher ratio in the two year old program really allows each child to grow to their furthest potential in a caring and safe classroom. The students learn to care for others, and get an excellent foundation for the academic skills they will need in the 3 and 4 year old program. My 4 year old is now reading anything phonetic and knows many sight words. As a former elementary school teacher and a parent, I could not be more pleased with the staff, culture, and education this school provides. My youngest will be enrolling in there in the fall and we look forward to another enriching three years.

My daughter is half way through the 3 year old Teddy program and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about the school. Her teacher is attentive to the students emotional and educational needs, creative with the lesson plans and has done a great job encouraging my daughter socially and mentally. The school has an active Parents group for fundraising and bringing in educational programs and field trips for all classes. The school consistently has a full classroom and waiting list because it is known by parents in the community as being a wonderful school and it delivers. My daughter is excited everyday to attend school, something she was not the previous year at another preschool. We have seen a positive difference in how she plays among her peers and in her education, like being able to write her name at 3 1/2. I happily recommend the Growing Place to every parent I meet and have yet to know of a dissatisfied parent. While the Growing Place does not have an observation room like SRNS (which I find a little creepy) it does offer opportunities for parental involvement in the classroom, such as Mystery Reader and class mom.

This is my 8th year, and I am very sad to say, my last year, at The Growing Place. I could not have found a better preschool for my 3 children. My oldest child is now 10 years old and her experiences from her 3 years at The Growing Place still continue to be such a special part of her early childhood memories. The staff is not only nurturing but they do an amazing job, in a fun, creative environment, to prepare each child for Kindergarten. I feel that the high educational background of the staff was an important factor in both of my older children being better prepared for Kindergarten than many of the other children in their Kindergarten classes. The Growing Place has been such a special part of our family over the last eight years. It has been a place where we have watched our children laugh, make friends and learn, but more importantly, "grow". Our family is truly going to miss The Growing Place! --Submitted by a parent

This is truly a wonderful school. The teachers are caring people and you will be amazed by the education your child will receive. I looked at many different schools and this school was the only one I absolutely felt comfortable with leaving my child. My daughter had fun while learning and had a great connection with the teachers. Children leaving this school to enter kindergarten are ahead of what is expected. My child entered kindergarten with so much confidence. You will love the school. --Submitted by a parent

This is our first year at the Growing Place for our 3/4 year old and we are very pleased so far. Our older daughter attended a large well-respected preschool in Montclair before we moved to Kinnelon and the smaller environment is much more nurturing and she receives more individual attention from the teachers. Class sizes are small with the 2 year olds having only 7 children and the older classes with approximately 14. The curriculum includes lots of music, creative crafts as well as storytime, ABCs and 123s. I've seen my daughter's academic qualities skyrocket since September and she is also building great socialization skills. The teachers are very warm and create a safe and loving environment. A great first step from home to school. There are also many visits from local businesses and field trips. The school also does special holiday celebrations that are just precious. Every school morning my daughter is super excited to go to school which is so great to see!

We had our child at the growing place for 12 days in the Teddy s class. The Growing Place suggested that he be evaluated by the district. We did what we were told and after the first evaluation, they kicked him out. The director and the teacher of the Teddy s stated they can t accommodate him . The case manager from the district observed our child at the growing place and no unusual behaviors were noted. Ironically, next day our child was expelled. When teachers were asked about behavior issues, they stated that our child had an unusually good day . Our child was left with no school to go in the middle of the year. The final evaluation found that our child does not qualify for special services; the scores were from average to superior. Our experience with this place was horrible. I do not recommend this place, it is not worth trying. There are many other places in town that are managed properly.

The teachers don't like the parents to observe the children's learning ( Smoke Rise Nursery School allows that); this is a red flag for The Growing Place. The children are kept inside for 90% of the time. When questions are asked the director has an attitude and shows poor communication skills. This is not the choice for your preschooler.
