My son attended Over The Rainbow Preschool since the age of 2 yrs. He graduated with the kindergarten program and moved on to public school well prepared. With all the years in attendance, he had wonderful teachers and a wonderful experience. The school has been open for a long time and has built a reputation of having long-term staff. All the teachers were loving and caring. Along with their curriculum, we enjoyed all the extras, for example, the guest speakers, Holiday parties, and field trips. Being a working parent, I appreciated seeing lots of parent involvement with the different activities that took place during the school year. The parents would be informed of the upcoming extra curricular activities with a monthly calendar showing dates and times, so that we could take the time off to participate in activities. I can't say enough wonderful things about the preschool! My family had a wonderful experience!

OTRP was great the first year my son was enrolled. I saw an immediate difference in him within even a month of being there. I was concerned at one point that he would need speach therapy and I quickly realized this wouldnt be the case once he began with the toddler program. The following year he had a teacher who I felt was very cold and I could see my son changing. By his 3rd teacher the following year I could tell my son had outgrown the school and was no longer being challenged. I am not sure if this is due to the student teacher ratio or due to the lack of some quality teachers. My final straw with the school was when I voiced my concerns and was ignored by the owner. She never gets back to anyone but I felt she would at least get back to a concerned email. After my 3rd email she finally had a staff member call me instead of handling it herself. After that I realized my sons care was clearly not a priority to them and was ready to move on.

There were some things we loved about OTRP and some that we didn't. The good parts were the teachers (although there was 1 that I heard grumblings about, our daughter didn't have her and we LOVED the teachers she did have. Can't say enough good things about them). Another great aspect is the large outdoor play areas, and the owner is really nice and knows all her families. The two biggest drawbacks to us were one, the price (pricier than most other preschools in the area) and the fact that it is a daycare center too, not only a preschool (although there IS a traditional morning-only program that is wonderful). The problem with the daycare aspect is that parents need to work and send their kids to school sick. That meant lots of illnesses coming home. Also there wasn't much family involvement. Parents are busy! I'm not fauling anyone. But if you WOULD like to meet the other families and all, it's tough b/c a lot of these parents are working hard, and long hours. Overall, our experience with OTRP was a good one for our oldest child, but knowing more the 2nd time around, we'll be going in another direction.
