My twins attended Barat Montessori (now Wayland Montessori) for the 2013-2014 school year. To be honest, I have struggled to write this review because I really cannot express adequately how wonderful this school was to my children. One of my children attending the school has language and behavioral issues. This was the first and only preschool to fully accept him and his challenges. The teachers and staff are warm and caring and are dedicated to the children attending the school. Both of my children had tremendous academic and social successes. As the year ended, both were able to read and had early math skills. They also have a sense of geography and a global sense of the world. They have a love of learning and school and are continuing to flourish in the public school system. I would recommend Wayland Montessori to anyone who is looking for a warm, loving environment where their children will gain incredible academic skills without realizing it.

My youngest daughter just finished her last year of preshcool at Barat. She is the youngest of four children, all who have attended Montessori, though she is the first at Barat. She has had a wonderful experience at Barat. The teachers, and owners, are warm and affectionate, as well as excellent teachers. They truly enjoy children and embrace all of Maria Montessori's theories. My daughter left Barat to start kindergarten already adding and subtracting and beginning to read. Most importantly she loves school and loves to learn, she feels respected and nurtured by the people who have been teaching her and she has learned to help you get children and be kind and compassionate to their needs. I would recommend Barat to absolutely anyone who wants their children to learn to love school and learning and respect the classroom, teachers and other children! I am s thankful that my daughter was able to be a part of this school!

I have had 2 children attend Barat Montessori School over the past 6 years. My children are completely opposite in their temperament and the way they approach social and academic situations. Barat embraced those differences and leveraged each of my children's strengths to help them maximize their academic and social success at school. Both of my children left Barat reading, writing and loving learning which may be the most important trait they were taught. I have independent, confident children who love to go to school. My husband and I appreciated the diversity of both the students and teachers at Barat. My son benefited from having a man in the classroom as a role model and teacher. The ownership and teachers at Barat are professional, flexible and passionate about learning. I would recommend the school to any child and parent.

My son had attended Barat Montessori school for the past 2 years. He enjoyed all activities at school and learnt a lot. All the teachers at school are excellent as is the environment. We would send him back if we were to look for school again.

I feel lucky that my son has his school life starting from Barat Montessori School. I highly recommend Barat Montessori School to parents who want their child/children to have Montessori education. My son enrolled in Barat at age 2 and 10 months. He almost cried every school day for the first two months since he was anxious about the separation from parents. The teachers in Barat were very experienced, friendly, full-of-love and taking good care of students. They accepted the difference among each student and gave my son enough time and space to make the adjustment in his little developing mind. Now my son loves to go to school and has a good experience of overcoming his anxiety. I admire the owner s determination to adhere Maria Montessori s philosophy in the school. Pleasing children is not her first priority. She observes each student, understands individual need and provides students an environment to learn step by step. She is my son s first teacher in his life. It is my son s pleasure to be taught by her and other teachers in Barat Montessori School.

As I'm writing this, my first child just finished her second year at Barat. She went through the new ownership transition and it went as smoothly as it possibly could. I am extremely happy and impressed with the new owner. She has put a lot of thought and care into the academic curriculum, outfitted the classroom with pristine equipment, and is meticulous about choosing the right teachers to nurture the students. Best of all, she is very proactive about communicating with the parents and responds promptly to comments and concerns. I am very much looking forward to seeing my first daughter grow and having my second daughter attend in January. If you think Montessori is right for your child you should definitely visit the school and see for yourself how it is so wonderful.

Great school. Montessori is a fabulous way to begin your child's formal education. Barat is extremely professional yet warm and engaging. Each of my 3 kids have thrived at the school and have headed to elementary school more than prepared.

My son attends Barat Montessori now, and our daughter will be going next January. We have been very happy with the enthusiasm and positive changes in cirriculum and communication under the new owners. In addition to the usual studies, students enjoy yoga, music programs and computer work. We are very happy with the school and would recommend it.

I have had both my daughters in this school and I have been extremely pleased with the outcome. The staff is very warm and welcoming as well as flexible. The academic curriculum is fabulous and allows the child to progress at their own pace at the same time preparing them for their future. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.

I have two boys, one who is still at the school and the other who is in kindergarten in our town. I had been looking for a Montessori program and was immediately drawn to this one. I appreciated the calm, educational environment - one that has no sense of rigidity. The staff have been wonderful towards my family and my children have always been excited to go to school there each day. They have learned so much and my older child had an easy transition to his new public school. The new director has many great ideas she is implementing this coming year and is making a big effort to foster an even stronger school community.

My daughter went to this school for two years and loved it. She was intellectually challenged to her abilities - I noticed the staff was good at seeing who could handle the reading and writing, who couldn't, and managed to have a task and a feeling of accomplishment for each child. Socially kindness was stressed, but not in the old-school way, but through talking about feelings and the stimulation of autonomous ethical behavior. The staff was warm and wonderful to children and parents alike. My daughter complained about Kindergarten (public) being all play and no work. She really benefited from doing work, seeing the relation between effort and result, and the pride of having done something challenging.

Both of my children attended this school from the time they were 3 till they left to K and they excelled in Kindergarten. I had to write a review just to show some of my appreciation to the dedicated staff. Some of the teachers there have been there for over 20 years! That says a lot about the school! The facility is very clean and all the children are happy there.

Would not recommend this school. We ended up removing our child, as we felt the school failed to meet her basic needs. They do well academically, but absolutely no warmth, nurturance, or staying attuned to the children. Also, the administration is very focused on the money and not honest.

I am a parent of three children, ages 13, 9, and 6. I have sent all three of my children to Barat, each for three years. I had a fabulous experience with this school, the staff and the teaching methods and methodology. On the spectrum of Montessori teaching, it falls right in the middle, neither too rigid or too unstructured. The staff is very experienced and in the 10 consecutive years my daughters attended, there was no teacher turnover. Make no mistake, this is an educational environment, and not a nursery school. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace and independence is stressed. Each of my daughters thoroughly enjoyed their time at this wonderful school and I would highly recommend it to any parent who would like their child to become an independent person with a life long love of learning.

We had a similar experience as the previous parents. Our child did not respond well to this environment where they have to walk on a line, look forward, and be quiet. We like the Montessori philosophy, but it is no surprise that the most important factor in the quality of the school is the teachers. Our experience was that the administration was not effective at setting the right example and creating the conditions for young people to flourish. In fact, we saw our child get downright angry after coming home from school. Since we left the school, our child has done wonderfully and loves school and can t wait to go. That was never the case at Barat
