Great school. Montessori is a fabulous way to begin your child's formal education. Barat is extremely professional yet warm and engaging. Each of my 3 kids have thrived at the school and have headed to elementary school more than prepared.
My son attends Barat Montessori now, and our daughter will be going next January. We have been very happy with the enthusiasm and positive changes in cirriculum and communication under the new owners. In addition to the usual studies, students enjoy yoga, music programs and computer work. We are very happy with the school and would recommend it.
I have had both my daughters in this school and I have been extremely pleased with the outcome. The staff is very warm and welcoming as well as flexible. The academic curriculum is fabulous and allows the child to progress at their own pace at the same time preparing them for their future. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.
I have had 2 children at Barat. My oldest is a girl and was shy and reserved. She spent 2 1/2 years at Barat. Because of the wonderful, warm staff and community of parents and children, I watched her confidence grow and she developed real leadership skills. She loves being in front of the class now and has lost some of her shyness. My youngest is a boy and has a totally different personality. I wondered if he would do as well in the Barat environment and he has thrived! The staff is able to help him focus on his "work" and have significantly enhanced his academic skills. The other thing that is great about this school and the staff are the enrichment programs they have in addition to the academic curriculum. My children enjoyed recess outside on the playground, yoga and computer interactions as well as snack time, group activities, nature walks etc. The new owner is warm and wonderful! We are really excited about the 2011 - 12 school year to see what adventures my son experiences this year! Both of my children love Barat and love to learn. It has been an excellent foundation for their education.
I have two boys, one who is still at the school and the other who is in kindergarten in our town. I had been looking for a Montessori program and was immediately drawn to this one. I appreciated the calm, educational environment - one that has no sense of rigidity. The staff have been wonderful towards my family and my children have always been excited to go to school there each day. They have learned so much and my older child had an easy transition to his new public school. The new director has many great ideas she is implementing this coming year and is making a big effort to foster an even stronger school community.
My daughter went to this school for two years and loved it. She was intellectually challenged to her abilities - I noticed the staff was good at seeing who could handle the reading and writing, who couldn't, and managed to have a task and a feeling of accomplishment for each child. Socially kindness was stressed, but not in the old-school way, but through talking about feelings and the stimulation of autonomous ethical behavior. The staff was warm and wonderful to children and parents alike. My daughter complained about Kindergarten (public) being all play and no work. She really benefited from doing work, seeing the relation between effort and result, and the pride of having done something challenging.
Both of my children attended this school from the time they were 3 till they left to K and they excelled in Kindergarten. I had to write a review just to show some of my appreciation to the dedicated staff. Some of the teachers there have been there for over 20 years! That says a lot about the school! The facility is very clean and all the children are happy there.
We have had 2 children attend this school. They both thrived here and have build friends that have lasted.
Would not recommend this school. We ended up removing our child, as we felt the school failed to meet her basic needs. They do well academically, but absolutely no warmth, nurturance, or staying attuned to the children. Also, the administration is very focused on the money and not honest.
I am a parent of three children, ages 13, 9, and 6. I have sent all three of my children to Barat, each for three years. I had a fabulous experience with this school, the staff and the teaching methods and methodology. On the spectrum of Montessori teaching, it falls right in the middle, neither too rigid or too unstructured. The staff is very experienced and in the 10 consecutive years my daughters attended, there was no teacher turnover. Make no mistake, this is an educational environment, and not a nursery school. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace and independence is stressed. Each of my daughters thoroughly enjoyed their time at this wonderful school and I would highly recommend it to any parent who would like their child to become an independent person with a life long love of learning.
