Our daughter went to Bedford Montessori School for three years -- two years of preschool plus kindergarten. She LOVED going to school. She was so interested and challenged. The Montessori method was perfect for her, and the staff of BMS did a great job. We felt like she was so well cared for.
My daughter attended BMS for three years - she loved it and we, her parents, loved it. We tried Montessori hoping that it would be a low pressure environment for her in which she could be relaxed when she wanted to be, and be challenged when she wanted to be. This philosophy worked so well for her, and she loved school, didn't like vacation days because she wanted to be there so much, and learned how to think and problem solve in the way that made the most sense for her. Our intention was never for her to be in an "academic" environment through Kindergarten, but she was interested in so many things there, she was reading at four, and loved multiplication and division as a Kindergartner. The best part about the school for us was the supportive, warm, caring environment the teacher's and Director foster. She was loved, known and taken care of, resulting in a very happy little girl, with lots of friends who were learning in that same environment.
Our first impression was the building looked a bit old & small for a montessori school. But we soon found that they have all the montessori specified teaching tools & methods. They also have two fully certified montessori teachers per each class, while some of the other ones that we saw in the area, had only one full time & one part-time/assistant. The administrative staff is also very cheerful & efficient. Our child had a very good year & we were also very pleased with the school. Our child always liked math way more than reading. During a short time that the director herself spent in class, our child quickly picked up reading skills, and within a month, he started to read three letter words, short sentences, and started showing a lot of interest towards reading, (while complaining that "my teacher is always asking me to do challenging things :-))". Due to my office relocation to a different city and consequent home move, we could not reenroll our child for a consecutive year, but we are extremely grateful for the time spent at BMS. Absolutely no hesitation, in marking our appreciation for BMS, one of the best places in the area, for a pres-schooler / kindergartener.
We love the school! It is a small school and that is what makes the school so very special! The teachers are wonderful, the director is encouraging, we know almost all the other parents - the sense of community is tremendous! We plan to send our child back next year - and we plan to send the little one too...in a couple of years!
