My son has had a wonderful experience at Roots N Shoots, Lynn is creative, adventurous and caring beyond words. This is my son's first experience in a school and Lynn has taken the time with each child to create a bond in which everyone feels secure and loved.
My family has had a wonderful experience at Roots N Shoots! The thought, knowledge and dedication Lynn has for this school is immediately apparent when walking in the door. Everything is very well thought out and executed from the beautiful physical space she has set up inside and outside her home, the art projects the kids do, the monthly learning themes (ocean, farm, weather, etc), the guest teachers she brings in (art, yoga, etc) and the field trips they go on. One of my favorite things about Roots N Shoots is the emphasis on outdoor play and connecting with our regional natural world. The hours are also great (9-3) - really allows me to get things done and for my son to be fully immersed in the day. Plus we have met really fantastic families through Roots N Shoots. Some of our closet friends in Maine! We couldn't be happier with our son's experience.
Lynn Rutter, the educator of Roots-N-Shoots, is the most gentle and loving spirit I know. She is extremely intuitive and giving. She is also very experienced in teaching and it shows. Lynn truly nurtures each child for their individual gifts and talents. I wish Roots-N-Shoots was around when my son was small so he could attend! Her teaching methods are consistent and research based . Her focus on our environment and our health is refreshing and with the times and just what we need in todays culture. I am lucky enough to observe and assist with art twice a week as a volunteer and believe so much in this school that I spend several hours a week there!
Roots-n-Shoots has been the best decision our family has made this year! If you are looking for a high-quality preschool, this is it. Lynn is highly trained and has a lot of experience in both early education & environmental education. It is obvious that this school is a labor of love for her! Monthly themes inspire local walking-distance field trips, crafts, book choices, play areas, nature-based learning, lots of time outside in her beautiful garden & yard ... everything is very well thought out & centered around the kids' development. Lynn has a way with kids - they flock to her and she teaches them well! The school is small enough that Lynn knows all of the kids very well & can nurture their individual interests & preschooler passions, all the while introducing them to so many new and wonderful things. My son is the oldest in the class (5) and I know that every day he is learning & growing in many ways. He comes home happy & bursting with excitement to tell me what happened that day & what new things he learned.
