Great school, and I am a picky mom. Both of my boys have learned so much being here, I cannot say enough. All the teachers are devoted and great. The food is the best at any daycare I have seen and the playground is top notch. This is the best daycare for future Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley students.
Johnson County Montessori Preschool is a large preschool, consisting of several classes with a fixed number of students. Your child's experience will greatly depend on his/her teacher. I can only speak of my own child's experience. I was disappointed with the school and withdrew my child after only two months. She was not getting the one on one help that she needed. The only feedback I was given was negative. Her main fault - she did not "listen the first time." She was 3. When I voiced my concerns, they were dismissed and the teachers became defensive. Remember though, this experience is related to one classroom. Because your child will remain with the same teacher for one to three years, make sure you visit each room and watch the teachers in action interacting with the students. If necessary, visit more than once. Also, the director is not always available and the chain of command is not clearly defined. I would get clarification on this before enrolling your child. The best part of the school is the music class. Music is taught twice a week and the teacher is marvelous. The add on classes are also a plus. This could be a good school, but it wasn't for us.
We were absolutely thrilled with the quality of education, and preparation our daughter received over 3 years.
Parents participation is high and welcomed! Ms. Judy's classroom is excellent! Students have a wide variety of work to choose from and my child loves the 'work' in her room. They have Ms. Ann come in and teach Suzuki music regularily as part of the curriculum. During the regular school year, Spanish and a 'movement' is offered as an add-on to the curriculum. Diversity is respected through out the school year, and learning to control one's body and respecting others is important. During the summer, children go on field trips once a week to places such as the Children's Museum, Theater for Young America, a farm, etc. Parents are encouraged to go on the trips. Also, swimming lessons are offered as an add-on during the summer. I've exceptionally pleased with this monterssori.
