Pershing is a wonderful at-risk and special education program with a highly educated staff who cares deeply for all students. The staff works very well together and uses individualized instruction for each student. I am stunned after reading the one star review of the program and disagree whole heartedly! Spend time with your child and the teachers at school! A school must have high expectations for all students including special education students. To not have high expections would be a disservice to a child. Every classroom is paired with another classroom to give each student inclusion opportunities tailored on the needs of each and every student. There are many services provided for parents and their children. Pershing reaches out and offers many opportunities for parents to become a part of their childs education. We had a great experience with Pershing and highly reccommend it!
As a form volunteer for pershing school. All i have to say is. That it's a terrific preschool that i have every seen. The whole staff is helpful and the teachers will take extra time if you need help on any subject. That have great events for the parents through out the year. And even though my child has move on. I'm always going to whole everyone at this school in a special place in my heart.
Pershing is an at-risk and special education early childhood program. Pershing does not offer inclusion opportunities with typically developing peers for special education students. We have had to advocate very heavily to get the minimum of services for our disabled children. It appears that there is some rivalry between the at-risk staff and special ed staff as the two combined last year. Staff is not very open to the idea of 'individualized' education and tend to want to educate children with special needs using the same methodoligies of teaching typically developing children. In reference to the IEP meeting process, parent involvement, in our opinion, is preferrably kept to a minimum if district and staff have their say. Parents...research your child's disability and advocate for what the research supports your child needs.
The best shool I have ever been a part of my children have done very well in this school and the teachers are great.
