We have a new Director who has reinstated the traditional Creative Learning Curriculum approved by Pinellas County License Board. Our children are thriving in a positive, creative learning environment and our parents are happy once again. We invite you to visit our school and see for yourself how our changes have created a positive learning environment for our happy children. St. Nicholas Preschool is where our children are cherished and loved.
Two years ago there wasn't an Orthodox curriculum. This began last November. I know this because my daughter attended this school for three years. New leadership was needed at this school because the recently removed director was an incompetent, self-absorbed dictator. As for incompetent staff returning, that is incorrect--VERY COMPETENT staff is returning. My advice---go back to the school in a few weeks to hopefully see positive changes.
This school is a wonderful place for children and the staff that is fortunate enough to work there. I personally have had the privilege of working there prior to the changes that have prompted all the controversy, and I still consider it a great privilege to work with great teachers, administrators, and students. This school is offering the best by combining a tradidtional education curriculum along with the added introduction to expose our children to the finer things in life while building independence and self esteem.
Great! It is so nice to have a neighborhood preschool that is so welcoming. And we are not even Greek.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. I'm quite pleased with the school. I think you'll just have to visit the school if you're considering sending your child there. Obviously some people aren't a fan of the approach, which is their decision, but you might be.
I did tour a Montessori school before I chose St. Nicholas. What I saw was porcelain dishes, a metal cheese grater, no plastic utensils, housekeeping tools & serving ware. That is exactly what was implemented in this recent "transition" much to the dismay of myself & others who have obviously posted here as well. If I wanted to send my child to an environment like that, then I would've chosen Montessori. The negative atmosphere that has been created by replacing the brand new educational materials the school already had with these "tools" was not making my child happy nor did the changes in staff or curriculum & she did not thrive there anymore. I am by no means "ignorant" when it comes to education & I do not appreciate being labeled as such just because I have a differing opinion than that of whoever is making these changes which resulted in the departures of many who had been with the school for years. I wish St. Nicholas the best & hope a possitive change is being implemented for the sake of the children & the remaining staff so that it can once again be a beacon to the community. May it be blessed...
I agree with the person who said ignorance is a terrible thing. The past year was a transition year for the school. Transitions often become very political situations, with everyone making assumptions and reading into things incorrectly. The community complained because of a lack of communication but failed to show up to the first community meeting of the school year where they would have received it. That fault is not on the school. I also agree with the woman who suggests you tour a few schools before deciding on one, including a Montessori school. If she had, she would have known that the school is in no way "secretly a Montessori school". The two environments are night and day. Walk into the school with a mind clear of all the rumors and the only thing you'll find at St. Nicholas is caring teachers, strong administrative support, a well implemented curriculum and happy children.
I used to be very happy with this school. The last six months have left me disgruntled and disappointed with the administration and powers that be. The teachers are great and caring---Too many changes affecting the atmosphere and energy of the school. My advise to parents--do your research and talk to parents.
This is an exceptionally wonderful school. Teachers are caring and very qualified, definitely nothing wrong with the curriculum. Ignorance is a terrible thing.
