My 4y/o daughter has been at Woodlands for a year. The staff was wonderful and accommodating during my daughter's transition into the school environment. I visited the school on several occasions before she enrolled and have always found the students calm and engaged in their work. My daughter has learned so much already and I have always had open access to her teachers who have been completely responsive to any questions or concerns I have had. I pay close attention to the provided snacks and have never been appalled by the selection (usually cheerios, graham crackers, animal crackers), it's not stuff I give her at home, but won't harm her in small quantities. They are certainly better than what she would be given in public school and even better than what they provide the students in other Montessori schools in the area. Even the nurse at my doctors office told me that she doesn't see many sick kids coming in from Woodlands, which was music to my ears. We have had a very positive experience here. I want to emphasize the quality of the teachers above all- they have been so nurturing and even protective of my daughter. We are moving soon and I will be sorry to leave the school.
My daughter attended this school for 2 years. It became apparent though that they do not know how to handle children who are a little hyper or excite easily. They seem to prefer a more docile or shy type child. We also found that they do not follow montessori principles. They isolate children and use observation chairs. They told me my child played too rough and could only stay if I agreed to not let her go on the playground! can you imagine??? Think twice...
At first I believed that this school was the best. But after a number of minor incidents I became concerned. I am by no means stating that my child is perfect, but what child is. When there was an issue I was told that an "outside" organization would be brought in to evaluate my child. (Apparently, this has been done to a number of other children that eventually left the school). After meeting with the "specialist" it came to light that the intervention was requested because my child was not ready for kindergarten. Well at the time of the incident she was only 3 & 1/2 years old. The director thought she was 4 & 1/2!! The findings were that she was behaving age appropriately and that she is an "extremely sweet, loving child". The second incident occurred when my child hit a teacher after the teacher was teasing her. The director stated, "Well, she's going to have to learn to deal with teasing' I stated yes, maybe by another child, but not by an adult, that's called abuse. The other issue I have is the lack of supervision on the playground. Many times I've witnessed the teachers and assistants standing around talking and not watching the children. Would not recommend school
It really saddens me that there were no reviews on this school prior to a bad one. Woodlands has been nothing short of an amazing experience for my daughter and our family. They have done such a great job with my daughter. When ever we go our people are amazed at how intelligent and well behaved she is and I cannot take all the credit. The teachers have been wonderful and understanding to any issues. I would never second guess leaving my child with anyone in the school also since with an educational backround i know that before anyone works at any school they have to have a background screening by DFC standards. The purpose of this review however is to let other parents know this is an excellient school and if they can have their child(ren) there it would be a blessing! :D
Did you notice all the positive reviews came directly after a negative comment? Make's me wonder if it's either the Director herself or one of her employees? Safety is my major concern as a parent. We arrived at the school on several occasions had there was NO ONE in the front office area, door wide open. We were able to walk right in to the children's area! I researched the school and found an issue with a teacher. When I questioned the Director, her first response was, "How do you know about that?" I've asked other schools if this is the norm, and I was told NO! This should raise a huge RED FLAG! The issue with photography had little to do with the cost, and all to do with the repercussions and anger directed at us when we refused to sign a release! They consistently provide poor nutritional choices (Capt. Crunch, Cheetos, Cookies)! Ask your friends, neighbor and co-workers about them you ll find more horror stories. I wish I could share more but we re contemplating litigation. Save yourself the NIGHTMARE!
My child has been at Woodlands for the past 3 years and is going to be attending Kindergarten and 1st grade there. She just turned 5 and has a health problem. The complete staff is concerned and helpful when it comes to her well being. At no time, has this school promoted a business. The Fun Bus has it's telephone number located on the side of the bus and my child pays for that wonderful activity. As far as photo costs, that is my prerogative and others to spend what they want. The school does not say or tell me I have to buy anything other than what I order. My child has blossomed at Woodland's and I don't look for things to pick apart. Some parents can't be pleased no matter what you try and do. I was in education and believe me we had pests who thought they ruled the show but found out differently. The education my child gets at this school is the best. GO WOODLANDS!
My child has attended this school since she was two years old. She is currently 4. I have never had a bad experience at this school. The director and teachers are wonderful. My child has learned so much and is far more advanced than she would be in any other setting. I am so happy that I chose this school for my child's early education
My daughter has been attending this school since she was 18 mos. old. She is extremely happy and I have never had a problem with any of the teachers or the director - they are all wonderful to communicate with and treat my daughter very well. She is excelling in many areas, has impeccable manners (they are very big on constantly working on manners) and is learning much more than I would have ever expected at age 4.
To Parent who wrote the first review, how long has your child been attending woodland north? and what actions did you take? I just recently did the tour and i do notice they are not as understanding as i would hope about the parent-child separation process. How did you feel about that?
The Director refused to give me my child s teacher's last names, saying that by law she doesn't have to! I was also appalled to find that the snacks they were feeding him, we don't allow him to have (i.e. cheetos, cookies, captain crunch, fruit loops)! She promotes her friends businesses through the school: Fun Bus, Photographer and so forth. Photography packages were over $100! She became angry that I wouldn't sign a release to allow her to use our child s image. NIGHTMARE from the beginning! Don't entrust these people with your children! Always trying to get more money from you! Beware the word Montessori is not copyrighted, and anyone can use it!
Got a question about preschool s?
