Child's Play by the Bay DC

Both my daughter and I love this school! It is a FUN introduction to an academic environment. The curriculum is well thought out, full of fun projects with an emphasis on the natural environment. We made the mistake of putting her in another school for 2.5 months when our nanny got married and we thought that the full day program at Jefferson would better meet our daughter's academic/social needs and our child care requirements. The school we chose in Georgetown was known for it's play based learning, it turned out to be small children running amok with little to no supervision. I was informed, after observing a child hitting my child and kicking another, that the teachers felt it was important for 'the kids to work it out themselves.' AT 3 AND 4? My daughter has been back at Child's Play for 8 months and is SO much happier!

This is a fantastic program. The play-to-learn theory includes many other theories including Motessori and Hawaii Early Learning Profile. Families who move to the beach from the metro areas should really check out this program since it is the only one in the area that is comprable to the preschools in Montgomery and Howard counties. The teachers hold advanced degrees in education and have many years of experience. In additon this program can offer parents of special needs children occupational therapy and can design one-on-one programs for their children. My oldest daughter graduated from the program last year and was more than prepared for Kindergarten. She also was given the opportunity to develop crucial social skills like empathetic listening and conflict negotiation. My younger daugher is 3 1/2 and is thriving there.
