I had two kids who went through Earthplace preschool and I cant say enough wonderful things about our experience. After 2 poor experiences in preschools in Westport we were referred here from a teacher who works at the public schools. I was really happy to find a place that my kids felt like it was a second home. For what my kids needed this was a perfect fit. They learn through exploring the world around them with a strong emphasis on kindness and respect. My kids loved it so much that they wouldn't want to leave. Academics are age appropriate. I think it depends on your child's readiness. Both my kids left here being able to do what I expected them to. And now there are in westport public schools and are well above what is expected of them there. Earthplace is to me a special place that your child will gain a love for learning and exploring the world around them. Highly recommend.
I would not recommend The Earthplace Nursery School. I had two children who attended and was terribly dissatisfied. Although they say it is "Play Based Learning", it truly is just Play Based "Playing". It is a glorified babysitting service. There is a serious lack of curriculum. Although Academics are not the focus, they are truly not introduced on a daily basis through Playing. The school is incredibly nurturing and staff is kind, I will state that. There were too many instances of inappropriate play as a result of lack of supervision. Although there were many incidences, nothing was ever done when issues were raised. I sincerely would not recommend this school. When I enrolled my children I searched great schools for comments. At the time there were none. I felt I needed to comment to express my strong opinion. Don't do it unless you have no choice. It is too expensive for such a lack of curriculum, intent for learning, and exploration. The facility has so much to offer yet it is not used sadly. A strong thumbs down.
Earthplace Nursery School is horrible. I would not recommend. Our experience was unsatisfactory to the point of not returning. It was a babysitting service. It was like a daycare. Any day that it is nice out. The children just play outside. I am all for lengthening the amount of playtime outside, fresh air and all. There didn't seem to be a planned calendar for learning. My child did not learn at the very least to recognize her name, learn the Alphabet song, or true counting. I was in support of Play based Learning but now I am not. The school failed in integrating Play with Learning. It was just play. Not acceptable for what they tout and how much they Charge$$$
My son attended Earthplace Nursery School, and absolutely loved it. He learned social skills, an appreciation of nature and the world around him, and early academics. He was well-prepared socially and academically for kindergarten and beyond. Earthplace's focus on the natural sciences, including outdoor play and daily nature walks, makes it unique among nursery schools in Westport. Earthplace has an outstanding staff of teachers and administrators (in the classroom and in the "befores" and "afters" programs (i.e. Lunch Bunch). All subsequent teachers and coaches have been compared to the Earthplace team.
