The teachers have talent and are committed to a child development focus. They support the Mr. Rogers' approach to learning, play is hard work but with supportive, caring adults, lots of good work gets done in the middle of what seems like a fun day.
The teachers at NPS create challenging and engaging learning experiences for children. Literacy and numeracy are explored through play, talking and reading. The vocabulary the children are exposed to and comprehension of complex topics they gain from the experiences is priceless. My child explores learning at her own pace and through an evolving and creative "curriculum" that is designed based on the expressed interests of the children in the classroom. I love the social and emotional support the children get. The teachers don't bark at the kids to behave. They treat the children with respect and guide them to see the value in working out their "problems."
NPS is simply a wonderful preschool. With the low turn-over mentioned in an earlier review, the teachers are all well seasoned and absolutely wonderful. NPS' strong suit is how its teachers help each kid develop into the best little person they can be. In addition to using the kids' natural curiosity to foster their cognitive skills through play (rather than rote memorization), they get invaluable life-long lessons in social skills. It took me a while to understand that this is what really sets the school apart. My kid is strong-willed but has blossomed at NPS as he learned to be more cooperative and socially graceful while remaining confident with who he is. The teachers' love and respect for each child's individuality is wonderful to see and develops clearly happy and well adjusted kids.
