JCC Early Childhood Center is a preschool located in Denver, Colorado. It accepts 2 to 5 year olds and is religious.
The school community has reviewed this preschool and given it an average rating of 2 out of 5 stars.
I agree with the other one star reviews. My daughters teachers try so hard but are always asking classroom parents to buy them supplies they need because the school doesn't buy the supplies they need for them. The school also asks parents to donate money but this school is not cheap, so where is all the tuition money going??? My daughter loves her teachers but there is just too much change in directors and financial trouble in the school and its overpriced for what your child gets. I keep getting the feeling that they need to do some rearrangement in management. The lady who is in charge of the camps and oversees the preschool doesn't seem to be doing a great job and it seems lots of teachers have complained about her. We do however love the swimming time the kids get as well as the fun Shabbat Sing on Fridays.
I really liked the teachers here but the administration was abysmal. I had terrible experiences the first year with one director. Then she left and there was no real leadership the following year. In addition, the first year, I signed up for their Parent Involvement Committee. During the very first meeting, I witnessed one member berate another member publicly. It was downhill from there. My child enjoyed the teachers, and the second year was not as bad as the first. Still, the leadership is lacking and the general feeling is that the higher ups simply don't care about much but the bottom dollar. I too have seen many good teachers leave this place. Also, academically, it is severely lacking. We are going to a different school next year.
I don't know what is going on with the higher ups at the JCC but something is very wrong because teachers are fleeing the school! The school does not have a director and they have actually had several directors over the last few years. Why don't the directors stay? Why are good teachers leaving? As a parent, I don't know what kind of early education my children are receiving especially since the administration can't even keep good teachers and parents don't have a director to talk to! This is scary. Avoid this school!
I decided to submit my comment in large part because my experience has been completely different from the one star reviews (though everyone is entitled to their opinion). My son began JCC ECC at the age of 3 years, 4 months. It was his first time in preschool. His teachers are terrific, engaging, welcoming, cheerful and patient. His first project was MLK friendship hands, followed by baking cinnamon challah rolls. He has music (and song), swim class (in an amazing facility), gym, and special projects. We like the diversity of the student body (i.e. from different countries, background and religions), but there's an emphasis and introduction to wonderful Jewish holidays and traditions. My interactions with the administrative staff have been very good, and we are greeted by name every morning. Most importantly, my son is thriving, making friends, socializing and learning in a supportive environment. That's really all I could ask from a preschool center. I've decided to enroll my second son next year.
The facilities are great(pool, gym, outdoor space), but I agree with other parents that say the administration is lacking focus and clarity. For the cost the JCC ECC really needs to start improving. My child has been there for less than one year and I've seen two directors come and go.
This school is great!! My son loves it here. He never wants to leave when I come to pick him up. The teachers are wonderful. I was actually referred to the ECC by one of my friends when I moved to Denver. She was also referred by her sister. There is also a few moms in my son's class who were also referred to the ECC, so it seems like they have a strong positive affect on families that attend the ECC.
The school was a nuturing experience for children. The swim lessons are a plus. The teachers have the best intentions. The adminstration is a dysfunctional mess. In my three years they had 3 different directors and multiple front office staff. No explanation or notice of a departure, but an introduction of the next scape goat. If you are interested in attending, inquire why they are no longer Qualistar rated and why their is a lack of a wait list. Don't be fooled that things are going to change. The problem starts at the top.
I have two children in this program! From the security guard (!) at the cross walk (!!) to the front desk administration and the teaching staff, I am impressed with the smiles and their faithful attendance. It's wonderful that the teachers are present daily but don't show up sick. That tells me the admin provides paid sick time and that's important to me as a consumer and a parent. The environment is positive, the art supplies are all natural supplies (pieces of bark, twigs, recycled materials) and the classrooms are uncluttered. That impresses me. I have seen dozens of preschools and no one offers this kind of friendly environment with positive messages and lovely artwork throughout the building. My children have been to two other schools and this is, by far, our home school for as long as we are allowed. Parents are considerate as well, which is nice to see during those rushed early mornings. I appreciate the classroom events that include families and parents, such as a Thanksgiving feast, Shabbat celebrations, Hanukkah festivities, read aloud storytimes, etc. Every person welcomes us from start to finish. Positive and nurturing environment since we've started Oct 2012.
The JCC has been a disappointment for us. We moved our child to the JCC hoping to get a stronger Jewish influence, but once there, that was the least of our worries. We went from a nice, well run preschool to one which has a terrible administration, poor classroom environment and an overall lack of quality. All for a higher price. We had to make private arrangements until we could get our child back into their old school. A very bad experience.
I'm not the kind of person who writes reviews but in this case I had to give my two cents since our family loves the JCC. My daughter just started the 4's class and my toddler just started as well. We can honestly say that over the last two years, our daughter has never had a bad day at school. She loves the teachers, classroom environment as well as the activities. We are thrilled with the education and all of the proactive learnings and methodologies that are introduced school-wide in terms of early childhood development. We feel that communication is open with the staff and that our voices and feedback are heard. I think it's nonsense to say that the administration doesn't care or want to hear what is going on. My one frustration with the school had to do with lottery numbers and the registration process. After expressing my concerns to a staff person, I got a call from the director who immediately worked out our situation. I felt taken care of and continue to feel that we are an important part of the school. Most pre-schools seem to have terrible staff-turnover rates and it seems minimal at the JCC. We have never had a teacher leave or get fired.Go JCC!
