Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My son has gone to sunshine since he was an infant. He loves it there! He always comes home talking about what he did that day and the friends he played with. The teachers are wonderful and are always pleasant and helpful. I'm so glad that I found sunshine! I would recommend it to everyone!

My boys love going to school. They can't wait to see their teachers and friends. I like that they are learning so much. I leave them with smiles on their faces. It makes my day easier knowing how happy they are. Love Sunshine.

Our son has gone to SLC since he was 1 (he's now 4.5). We LOVE the teachers and he has learned so much! More than I probably could have taught him. Highly recommend!!!

As a teacher myself, I couldn't be more please with SLC! My daughter (now 3) has gone to SLC since she was 15 months old...their toddler rooms, and preschool rooms are absolutely wonderful! Meals were great, daily communication was amazing, and staff was wonderful! My daughter looked forward to going each day and is upset that she isn't returning (I'm staying home for a year). She came home each day with new things she learned and wonderful things to say.

Our children have attended Sunshine for about a year. We couldn't be happier. The staff is great. My son is two and they are doing an amazing job with his potty training. He is learning sign language and how to share with his friends. We love to bring his art work home to hang up. Our 4 year old has such a great time there are days she wants to stay. She brings home her work in what they call the Friday folder. It has work she has done during the week for us to talk with her about. I love this. Sunshine is a great school.

I used to work here and I was also a parent. This place is horrible. The teachers are constantly fighting with each other and the children are not well watched. The children are treated very shabbily and I have seen many of the teachers grabbing arms and yelling in their faces. It was a horrible place to work and a horrible place for my children.

My children have attended SLC for about 6+ years all together. Yes, there has been turnover and some rough times, but things have really turned around with a director and an assistant director in place again. My kids have always found a security there and I have never felt like a number to anyone. They love my kids and that is what counts. The food is somewhat important but I have also fed my kids leftovers and cold PB&J before. What daycare facility does not have turnover? Turnover in any workplace usually goes in spurts SLC is no different from any other place of employment. Things are great now, is it perfect?...no, but it is the best place for me and my family. By the way they always ID my kids grandparents when they do the pick up.

SLC has been a great experience for my child. They have had great teachers with a heart for all of the students and directors that are very understanding.

Sunshine used to have good leadership, talented teachers and many activities. The quality of care has gone downhill since they lost their Director.

When we first started at SLC in 1998 it was a great school but in the last few months it has been extremely disappointing to us. The turn over rate seems to have increased and the level and quality of supervision has definitely decreased.

I researched many centers before enrolling my daughter in Sunshine. My daughter loves it there and is very well taken care of. There are a lot of bad things being said by some of the parents. Talk about petty! Cold PB+J - never hurt a kid and is an all time favorite. They have VERY good meals (chicken enchiladas, vegetable soup, lasagna, etc) all home cooked. 'Hiring younger staff at a lower rate' some of my daughters favorite teachers are the college students who really love teaching and spending time with her. Age doesn't equal quality. They do art, science, discovery, math, and teach her the essentials she needs to know before school. I would highly recommend checking out the center and forming your own opinion before letting 5 upset parents speak for everyone. This center has been open for 25+ years; that has to say something.

My children attend Sunshine. I have been very pleased up until the last 6 months. There is a serious lack of leadership and a very high turnover. They seem to be hiring young girls at a lower rate of pay instead of hiring qualified teachers. I have seriously considered taking my kids out if they continue to manage with such a lack of concern for the kids and the parents.

My 2 children both attend Sunshine and up until the Director left; I was very satisfied with the quality of care my children were receiving. However, in the last few months I feel the quality of the center has deteriorated. There seems to be high staff turnover and some of the best teachers have now left or been forced to leave. I think personal issues of the owners have affected the day to day running of the Center. It's unfortunate as we have always loved Sunshine and luckily had some of the best teachers care for our children. However we are now forced to look at other alternatives in care.

Sunshine has been in business for 25 years. It has had a wonderful program but lately there have been management problems.

class sizes are a little too large for the number of teachers available.

My children have been attending SLC for 3 years. This past year everything has been going down hill. There has been very high turnover in the toddlers/preschool/pre-k rooms. The lunchs/snacks are not adaquent, cool nuggets, frozen PPJ. I bring these issues to the owner and she is very defensive. One the snow day last week, only a small amount of kids at the center. Instead of using this time as arts/crafts the kids watch 2 movies through out the day. I can pay a teenager girl to put a movie in the vcr. We are paying good money and I feel we are not getting our moneys worth. I will be withdrawing my children from SLC before summer.

Sunshine Learning Center is currently being restructured and I do not feel that the educational environment it is providing is the best. The director of four years recently left and things have gone downhill since then. The majority of the teachers are experienced and loving but I cannot reccomend the center due to the owners lack of concern.

Sunshine Learning Center has huge organizational issues. They expect the parent to do what they are paid to do. I have, over a dozen times, picked my child up with his diaper stuffed down his pant leg as a result of poor attention. I have arrived and gotten my children without so much as a nod from staff members, talk about a security nightmare. I have arrived to watch children around the corner of the playgroud area throwing rocks for several minutes before I turned the corner to stop the dangerous behavior; extremely poor supervision. They expect the parent to track down attendence sheets, homework, clothing, show and tell, and diapers all in different locations in their various 'classrooms'. They have home-cooked meals--- if you consider peanut butter and jelly a home-cooked meal. Be very cautious involving your child here, know what you are getting into ahead of time!

My oldest daughter attended Sunshine 2 years ago and now my youngest is there. Both girls love it as do my husband & I. The center is very clean, the food is home-cooked and the kids get plenty of attention and playtime!

I researched MANY day care facilities on the North side of town (both Christian and non) and Sunshine learning center is the best! Sunshine doesn't keep all 1-year olds in the same room. They understand that there is a huge difference between a 14 month old and a 22 month old. The children are put in rooms that challenge their minds, but are totally age appropriate. Most of their teachers are child care professionals (not baby-sitters) AND there is low turnover. My son Isaiah loves it there!
