I consider Playmates an excellent preschool. Both my children attended different preschools so i have something to compare to. The coop work was hard for me since i did not live anywhere near the school. The good thing is you get wonderful fellow parents and genuinely caring staff, nurturing your children. The child development seminars ensured top quality educational techniques. If you can put the time in, it is the best school. What better than to see your child growing up among his/her friends and their families? A lot of the families end up being longterm friends too.
We love Playmates! It's a cooperative nursery school so we are VERY involved with the school and community. Playmates is a play based school which means they learn skills directly through play. The teachers are warm and creative and the school is quite large, especially the outdoor area. There is a garden complete with a composting worm bin, a huge sandbox with climbing structures, lots of toys and art for outside, water tables and a really big bike area. My son loves the bike area the most. Playmates also offers a Young 5 program in a seperate bungalow on the same campus. I give this school a huge thumbs up. We love it and can't say enough nice things about it.
My son went to Playmates for about 2 1/2 years in the afternoon program and I would recommend this school to anyone. The staff is friendly, very helpful, and very caring. My son felt very loved there and he still likes going to visit. I felt very comfortable leaving him in their care. They have connections to other early child development professionals -- i.e. therapists, counselors, etc -- and give the information out freely. Because it is a co-op, there is a very large time commitment -- classroom time, fundraising time, committee time, and bi-weekly meetings are all required. Even with the time commitment, I would highly recommend this pre-school. A more caring environment you can't find.
