Our kids are currently enrolled in Mother Goose. We're very happy with the school and recommend it to other families looking for a preschool. Over the past three years, Mother Goose has provided a wonderful experience for our children. Most of the teachers are very nurturing, enjoy what they do, and have provided our children with a nice blend of playtime, academics, arts, and athletics. There is a strong community of Richmond and Sunset District families who regularly get together for playdates and birthdays. The school is supportive of parents. We've been able to setup parent/teacher conferences whenever needed. The school has been flexible with accommodating special requests. Hot lunches are provided, which is great for busy families with two working parents. The school is more academic than play-based schools -- fine by us -- and the very experienced director has been invaluable in helping navigate the challenging SF school application
A very 'in the box' preschool. Great if your child fits, i.e. not too independent, not too bright, not challenged, low to mid level energy, etc.. Very little room for addressing individual child needs. And there is definitely a sense of 'we've been doing this forever, we know everything' coming from the director and some staff. They can also use some thought innovation, less attitude, and an updated approach to re-directing negative behaviors without diminishing a child's spirit.
I believe that this preschool can be great for easy going and well behaved children. My son however faced a few challenges (difficulty with social interactions and difficulty creating relationships) and I do not believe that the school handled these challenges well. His teacher was excellent and he loved her. But the director was very close minded and made me feel intimidated every time I came to school. He suggested (and probably believed) that my son's behavioral problems are due to lack of discipline at home while my son actually seems to have special needs which were not supported or even recognized at this school. My son has since been attending two other preschools where he does really well and we love both of them. Not until now we realized that there should be more parent/school communication, support and willingness to help to your child while problems arise.
Fantastic school! This is truly a preschool! both my daughters started before they were 3 and they grew into 'little people.' They learned academics as well as social skills. the environment is nurturing and loving. The teachers and staff have a genuine caring demeanor. This is not a place with 'cutting edge' techniques but a place with 'old fashion' values and virtues. When the kids go to kindergarten, they are very well prepared. Kids become very self-sufficient and independent. They have a nice large out-door play area, hot lunches are provided, and they truly care for the kids as if their own. They incorporate music, cultures, community, everything! Wonderful loving staff!
