Holy Family Day Home was a blessing for our sons. They have a beautiful facility, dedicated teachers (Teachers Valentina, Debra, Louis, Maria, Regina are all fabulous, and I know there are others who we just didn't meet!), and a strong support system. They have a veritable rainbow of families attending, too. They are a well-run nonprofit that offers regular options for family involvement and participation, a weekly farmers market that builds community and provides much-needed food to families, and a support services team for those who need them. Perhaps the best complement I can give is - our son was 1 of 3 from his class to graduate (if you can call it that in Preschool) into the same program at a nearby public school. I saw the test results of all the Kindergarten students at the beginning of the school year, and all 3 Holy Family Day Home kids tested amongst the highest in their class - meaning they knew their letters and numbers, and were ready to learn more. Said another way, they were well-prepared and well-adjusted for Kindergarten, thanks to Holy Family Day Home. We miss the community there, but have built some lifelong friends, and look forward to remaining supporters.
Top tier early childhood education and environment in a beautiful new building on Dolores Street. Our sons have florished there. Holy Family provides a safe, nurturing, learning environment, with enough structure to give kids some context to their play-based learning. This is a choice for working parents and proivides hot lunches and snacks, as well as all day classes.
Extremely well-funded non-profit, non-sectarian (despite name) school with financial aid available on the basis of need. Very active teachers who give parents frequent feedback. Terrific student-teacher ratio (1:8), plus often also a classroom volunteer (1:6). Exceptionally well-run school administration; kind and caring concierge/front-door staff. Beautiful facility, large and lovely outdoor playspace (giant play structure, huge sand pit, tricycle yard, model house, etc). Has its own chef and kitchen. Genuine ethnic and socio-economic diversity, rather than the ersatz kind proffered by a lot of schools. Truly reflects the city we live in. Lots of extra free programs. Located in a very beautiful and historic part of San Francisco, opposite Mission Dolores Basilica, Congregation Sha'ar Zahav, and a Lutheran Church, and 2 blocks from the glorious Dolores Street park.
