I love this school and the community it has created over the last thirty five years. The rooms are all kid size and great for exploring, the teachers are warm and offer both play based activities and guided sessions in music, projects and science activities. I appreciate the guitar sessions and Nina on the piano, Frank with his wonderful projects, and Angelina teaching the kids science, geography and how to think. Julie, the new director after years as the assistant director & teacher, creates a very warm and inviting place.
Our colorful school is full of life and creativity. Each room is inspiring in different ways for the kids to learn and play. It is a home away from home, and feels very much like our smaller houses that we raise our families in San Francisco. The teachers are well rounded and they're differences add to the enrichment of the experience. Nina is super friendly and direct. She is the creative mind behind the crafts and instrumental to the kids love of learning through song. Frank is so patient and and an incredible rock for kids when they are emotionally uneasy. The kids are always so happy to have him sitting on the floor during playtime. Angelina is a guiding light and keeps everything on schedule with her organized approach. There are many fund raising and fun raising events throughout the year in the play yard that keep our small community connected to each other and our larger community.
Gates and Bridges is an incredibly warm and caring environment. Our kid quickly overcame his fear of preschool and bonded strongly with the teachers and with kids in the school. We got very helpful and sincere feedback on his strengths and weaknesses, and just plain good advice about how to help him through difficult social interactions. He had great exposure to reading, artwork, music and getting around to beautiful and educational spots in San Francisco. The martial arts class was excellent and has had a lasting effect on his self confidence and his movement. As a parent, I already miss the teachers, the community and just the daily interactions coming and going. He is having no problem adjusting to kindergarten.
Gates and Bridges is a truly wonderful preschool. A small class with loving and mindful teaching, a sweet facility, and a deeply engaged parent community. One of the few preschools in the city that offered a full day of coverage and flexible schedules for working parents AND a real engagement in my child's learning style. Both my kids have attended and we love it more each day.
