Big City Montessori School

My son was there for almost 3 years and I have nothing but good things to say about BCMS. The staff is very warm and very engaged with the childern. I found the quality of the Montessori teaching to be high. I particuarly appreciate they way a sense of autonomy and disipline is instilled in the kids. It's obvious to me that my son and the other BCMS kids are given a huge head start in terms of self care and self control skills over many of their non-Montessori peers. The location is a little funky, and my only only concrete critcism is that the outdoor play space is not what I'd like to see for kids of the age. But they make good use of what they have.

My son who was an undignosed autistic kid loved the school and learned a lot!! My daughter who was typically developing did really well here too. I highly reccomend it.

A fantastic environment that fulfills the Montessori goal of encouraging the child's development through careful observation, gentle guidance, and hands-on training (often with younger or older children as mentor/pupil). Healthy lunch, clean environment, and full-time care are added pluses.

Appropiate for children who can conform to the expectations set by the school. A rules-based culture which discourages interaction between children during 'work' time. Not for free spirited kids.
