Discovery Montessori

My son started at Discovery Montessori 2 years ago and will be graduating this year and moving on the Kindergarten in the fall. The school has been AMAZING. It is a coop that is run by a parent board and the participation and involvement from parents is incredible. The Director, Joan, is a loving and wonderful woman. The head teacher, Denise, loves the children like they are her own. My son is very active and likes to test his limits every chance he gets. They have always handled his behavior in a positive way and have helped me to be a better parent every step of the way.

The director (as of 2011) of this school is not qualified for her position. She accused my daughter of having conjunctivitis, when it was clogged tear ducts. She also told me that she thought my daughter had ADHD. She is not a medical doctor, and should not be making these diagnoses. As it turns out my daughter had hearing loss (and subsequent speech delay) due to fluid in her ears. My daughter and I were miserable for a whole year at Discovery. I toured a local preschool in midtown (where my daughter now attends) and was told my daughter could get speech therapy for free from SUSD. The director at DM never helped--just singled my daughter out for scrutiny. We are at the better school now, getting speech therapy at a local elementary school, and she's got tubes in her ears, improving her hearing. She is absolutely thriving and will be ready for Kindergarten this year--no thanks to Discovery Montessori. Two major thumbs down.

DM has been a wonderful warm environment for our child. All of the teachers are very caring and hard working. Highly recommend.

Our child has flourished since starting the program at Discovery Montessori. All of the staff members are excellent. Great student teacher ratio of 1:6.

Excellent school! I love the small school atmosphere at Discovery. The director is an amazingly nice person and so it the staff of 3.
