When we moved to the area several years ago, we searched several different preschools. We chose Tuvia because of the great families, the loving and nurturing staff, how well the staff seemed to know and care for each child, and how well the children seemed to be prepared for moving on. Now that we've been part of the community for a few years, we have experienced first-hand all of these aspects. The only thing we'd change is having bathrooms closer to the playground as it seems the teachers are constantly running children to the bathroom at the other end of the school, which means one less person on the playground for a short while. The activities, the learning they do is amazing! Our children learn Hebrew and Spanish, come home singing all the time, and, most importantly, want to go to school even on the weekend! They LOVE their teachers! The office and admin staff are warm, caring, and make themselves available for questions in person and via email. We are happy to be a part of such a great parent-community, too.
the teachers that my daughter had while at tuvia seemed truly devoted to her educational needs/development. however, there exists a complete disconnect between the school/temple admin and the teachers/assistants. numerous times, i did not know who picked my daughter up from school because the sign in/out sheet was left blank. (i share joint physical custody of my daughter with her father) in one instance, they accepted a phoned-in request by someone to allow a sketchy person to pick my daughter up. i questioned them extensively about their safety policies following the above incidents, as well as after my daughter sustained several playground injuries, and i was told that student safety is "not black and white, but a gray area". if you value your child's safety, you should look elsewhere.
My daughter (now in 1st grade) went to Tuvia as a 3-4 yr. old and loved it! She trived in this loving, encouraging environment and started Kindergarten confident and prepared. (Now she loves when she gets to go back when we pick up her little brother and see her "Tuvia famiy"). We couldn't wait to start my son when he was 2 (now 3). He is also thriving there (and usually doesn't want to leave when I pick him up.) Nothing is ever perfect, but I feel confident that when my kids are at Tuvia they are safe, nurtured and challagned!
I was not happy with my experience at Tuvia. There is very little communication between the director, staff and parents. We addressed many issues and the director failed many times to follow up on them. The playground is terrible. Children of all ages are mixed into the bunch. The student teacher ratio in the playground is between 12 and 14 to 1. The play structure in the middle is not appropriate for a two or three year old. Children are constatly running over other smaller children with the tricycles. tricycle are is so narrow and hard for children to get around. Teachers are sweet but I never felt that my child was safe there.
