This preschool is definitely better in theory than in practice. I agree with some of the previous posters about the beautiful garden and international focus. True assets. However, if your child does not fit the cookie cutter mold of a Montessori child, Zama and her teachers will not work with you. The pressure my child felt every day at school to be something different proved unbearable. The La Casita approach was to "fix" the "difficult child" in order to adhere to La Casita, rather than the other way around. Also, Zama will raise her voice at your child in a heartbeat. A simple review of her license will illustrate that. Why I didn't check the license before I enrolled my child, I'll continue to regret. Unfortunately, records are purged after two years. There was a certain warmth that was lacking at the school. No tolerance for occasional silliness or fun. We loved some of the teachers and Ceci is fantastic. But, truth be told, my child THRIVED as soon as we moved to another preschool. I have no doubt that many children will have positive experiences at La Casita. However, my child did not.
Our daughter currently attends La Casita Bilingue Montessori in Pinole on Tennent Ave. It is a beautiful little 'jewel' of a school that teaches individual development, organic and environmental awareness, art, dance, reading, science, math...etc. This is all done with a hands-on and caring director, teachers and staff. We are extremely happy and only wish that we had sent our daughter sooner. We have seen our daughter (and many other students) grow and flourish there.
My son is currently attending LCBM. We (son and parents) are very happy with the school. His teachers are very lovely and patient. He has grown both academically and personally in the past month.
