I joined this school after the many changes discussed in other reviews so I cannot speak to what that transition was like. candidly I only looked at the school because a good % of the teachers were former Bright Horizons (UCLA) teachers whom I already knew and loved. My daughter has thrived at Westwood Hills. She barely wants to leave school and she made the transition from BH seamlessly because of the teachers. Everyone is qualified and loving and the teachers make an effort to learn about new educational approaches and the director sends them to observe other schools. That said it is trending towards being a Reggio school and it is a play based pre-school so if that philosophy is not what you had in mind it won t work for you.

My son has been at Westwood Hills pre school the 2012-2013 academic year and ever since the new Director Nikki took over, she has fired or pushed out all 10 caring, loving teachers who were hired before she started. They have been replaced with low-budget credentialed teachers who lack any experience or skill. The staff morale is very low, students are emotionally impacted by all of the changes that happen without regard to their feelings. The school has been transformed into a glorified day care center with little preparation for kindergarten. --Submitted by a concerned parent

Westwood Hills Pre School has gone down in the past 1 year. Many parents are pulling their children out and teachers are leaving because of the dictatorial management style that has caused the school to take a nose dive. None of the teachers who had decades of experience at the school remain there. There is a culture of distrust whereby the board and staff are at odds and parents are afraid that if they voice their concerns, they will be targeted and pushed out without another pre school to move their child to (given long waiting lists at most schools). It once was a wonderful place for children but has since turned into a scary place. Please be warned so you do not have to suffer through this stage in the school's history!!!

This was once a great nurturing school. The new director has made many changes, but has fired the entire experienced staff. New staff is credentialed, but not as experienced. A teacher with 33 years at the school was let go. She was 3 mos. shy of SS, but they wouldn't let her stay. They have no heart. One class had 3 sets of teachers last year, with no explanation to the parents. This had a negative effect on the kindergarten preparation for some children. Administrators can't communicate. Even good changes are not promoted. There were several arguments with parents. Admin style is very abrupt. They don't understand that kids need time to adapt to changes. Facilities are older. I hope they can get back to the nurturing environment they once had. The most important thing for children is stability, consistency and kindness. They need to focus on that.

My son has been at Westwood Hills for a year. He started as a 2 year old. As an only child we wanted him to have lots of time with other children. We are very happy with Westwood Hills. The teachers are very caring. We explored other options, including a school across the street which was brand new. But Westwood Hills has a long history of serving the community and experienced teachers that couldn't be beat. They have a fantastic "summer camp" with different activities all summer. It is like the kids are at a birthday party every day (I.e., bounce houses, reptile shows, pony rides.) During the school year they do a great job of structuring the day so the kids get plenty of rest and play time. Most of all the teachers are kind and caring.
