Our 3 year-old son has been attending since last summer, and it has become an important and nurturing part of his life. We chose Westminster because of its proximity to our house but also because we had heard great things about it from neighbors and friends whose children attend. We know people who have sent multiple siblings to the school. There are graduates who are in college who still remember Westminster and Mrs. Villa-Lobos with love and affection. We love the focus on art and music as well as the many family and community activities the school holds. We truly feel that we are part of a community, and we have become close to other families through our connection to the school. The children have weekly chapel in a child-appropriate way that focuses on values of love and kindness. Although our family is not Christian, the values taught at the school correspond to our own. These values are felt every day in the way in which children and adults relate to one another at the school. The Church has been in the neighborhood for 100 years and the school fr 50. It is truly a neighborhood institution.
The teachers are so warm and attentive to each individual child. The ratio of teacher to child is unbeatable to others in the area. There is a real sense of community and parents are invited to volunteer as they see fit or not at alll. This creates a great fit for many types of families (working moms too!) and a much needed style of teaching and education that is not found anywhere else in the area. There is a lot of flexibility in scheduling and extra-curricular options. And might I add that we LOVE the parents. The families there are so diverse and community-oriented, probably because the feeling of the school is that it has something to offer everyone. From the moment you set foot on the campus, the open space creates a very open feeling that carries over into the embracing of different cultures and backgrounds that can benefit from the values of a Christian foundation (it is affiliated with Eagle Rock Presbyterian Church) without a bible-based curriculum that would deter many families from other religions from benefitting from all that Westminster has to offer.
Our daughter attended WCC for two years before moving on to Kindergarten. We were very happy with the teachers, and mostly with the Director's style. The school is small enough so the small kids don't feel overwhelmed. The nap room is perfect, specially during the summer when it can get very hot. It is a very caring and nurturing environment. We were sad to leave. :-(
This is our second year at Westminster and I love it, as our son's mother, but most importantly, our son Loves it! Westminster is a beautiful school - the teachers are involved, caring, hands-on and fun! And the grounds are wonderful. There is also great consideration made to make sure that it is affordable, which is a gift especially considering the quality of care that the children receive at this school. We highly recommend WCC!
