We receive financial aid and have had a very positive experience over the last year with the director (now former director). We have not felt that excluded because of money or ethnicity- in fact quite the opposite. We have felt that she went out of her way to embrace us and make sure we were finding our way. It has been a little difficult to break into established social circles with other parents but this is Los Angeles and Bel Air (to that extent). If you are a parent give the school a break- get involved and make relationships yourself and stop complaining, gossiping and demanding. The staff was so over accomodating and I didn't see even one high-profile family that the director was dealing with. If families think the director/staff are catering to the wealthy- 1. this is LA- we are surrounded by weath and 2. Maybe it is YOU that is intimidated. This school treated everyone equally. If you aren't happy withthis school you won't be happy anywhere. Just wait until your child is elementary school. I give this school- teachers and administration a YES! T If you didn't see the director- it was because she was busy with all types of families- families like mine. Not just the rich!
As parents, we mostly regretted our decision to transfer our son to this school. The most positive thing about BAPP was how the teachers taught children social skills, particularly on how to resolve conflict. Reports on my son's progress were detailed and quite helpful to us as a parents. The downside of BAPP was that the director was highly anti-social (usually downright rude) unless you were one of the rich and famous families that attended the school. Even though we volunteered our time and money, we rarely felt welcome and usually felt very uncomfortable. It was clear also that most of the teachers were intimidated by the director. For a church preschool, we expected a more Christ-like behavior. The director also did not lead by example, frequently not modeling the good behavior she required of the students, families, and staff. Another huge issue with BAPP is that it has little diversity socioeconomically and/or ethnically. Most children are white and wealthy. The staff has very little diversity as well. Again, very disappointing for a Christian preschool. We had none of these issues in the former preschool and none in the school we attend now.
Director has terrible people skills. This trickles down to the classroom. Adminstration is feared by everyone. This is a very money-driven school. Volunteering is mandatory but not valued, cash pledges are valued! No loyalty to your family and your child. Not so Christian really.
I am shocked at some of these reviews. I searched high and low for a preschool for my son (ADHD) that would treat him as a wonderful child, not an annoying handful. BAPP was fantastic! I wish they had an elementary school as well - I hated to leave! His teachers were caring and attentive (We're still in contact with them) and the admin staff were easy to talk to, sweet, funny, available - you name it! The school has tons of outdoor play space (More than most) and for the older kids who stay for the full day, there are such things as gardening, yoga and Spanish. After looking at many schools on review websites, I find that you have to take reviews with a grain of salt - People are more likely to write a sour/negative review than a good one. Please don't overlook this wonderful school!
I had my son here for 1; yr. I found the director not available in mornings when i needed to talk. The teachers where ok, at times i was concerned on the yard the ratio was not safe.
Both of my children attended this preschool. It 's a wonderful loving environment that teaches through play and child-guided development. Highly recommend.
This is a great school. My daughter is five and this is her second and final year. The teachers last year completed two very detailed evaluation forms and shared them with us. The director is very knowledgable.
This school has a large turnover,, i also found the staff uncaring. - Parent of a 4 yr..Old.
I substitued at this school, 2 times. I found the staff to be not prepared for number of children on yard. ! The teachers where talking between themselves not focused on children.. I will not return as sub, and not recommend this school-- to my teacher friends. Jay.
