My son has been attending ECDC for 3 years. He started in Toddler 1 & is now in Pre-K. It's been a good experience for him. We have been especially impressed with what he has learned in the pre-K classes. At 4 years old he recognizes and writes numbers, letters and his name. The hours are great: 7:30-5:30. There is plenty of parking on the street or in the parking lot. I always feel safe dropping off and picking up my son. There is a separate playground for the younger kids. The older kids have a larger playground with bikes and other play things. The school serves breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks a day. One major con of the school is the turn over in administration. We don't always like the decisions of the administrators & their lack of communication. There was brief period when they tried eliminating morning snacks so kids would be hungrier for lunch. Snacks were restored after some complaining. Another con is the inconsistent educational levels of the teachers. We've been extremely lucky to have great teachers like Teacher Vee, who goes out of her way to email the parents & personalize optional at home work writing skills exercises.
My child loves it here, and my wife and I have had a good experience thus far (a little over a year now). The staff is always friendly, and the activities for play based learning have been great. I see a continual improvement at this school where the City of Emeryville, parents and staff have come together, and as a result, leadership has improved and we really don't hear of any major problems.
Emeryville Child Development has been a wonderful place for my children. The teachers have been resourceful and nurturing. My children have learned a great deal. The teachers are Great!! I am sorry for the bad experiences the other families on here have had. It doesn't affect me that most of the teachers are the same race. A lot of the teachers have degrees and most of the other teachers Re attending school. I am happy I chose Emeryville Child Development Center!
My child started ECDC this year. I really thought this place was going to be amazing from the tour we went on and other parents reccommendations. I have walked into my childs class more than once to find two of the three teachers arguing while the kids just sat in the circle watching and waiting. This is highly unprofessional and inappropriate. My child had told me before that the teachers argued, but I guess I had to see it to believe it. I have brought a concern to a teacher, to which there was no follow up. I often worry about my child's emotional safety at this school. A lot of bullying and inappropriate behavior goes unchecked by the adults. There are little to no lessons on inclusion, community, and 'being nice' to others. As a result, there are already cliques who run the playground, while quieter students get ignored.
