Very structured, high-quality school/daycare. The school has a very "corporate, for-profit" feel, however their solid curriculum makes up for this.
My son spent 3 1/2 years at this school. We drove way out of our way to take him but I can tell you the quality of this school is well worth it. The administration, teachers abd staff are totally outstanding.
My daughter has been in the infant room for 5 months and I feel that she is very well taken care of by her teachers. They are all very nurturing and caring and spend lots of quality time with each and every baby. My daughter just lights up when she sees her teachers which makes us feel comfortable leaving her there. Being able to watch her on the guardiancam is also lots of fun and another way to reassure us that all of her needs are being met and that she is having fun.
My wife and I made the difficult move of starting our 2 year old son twice weekly at Discovery Isle to build his social interactions. It has worked wonderfully. His language skills have improved and his social interactions with other toddlers seems to be fairly normal. We catch his singing songs in the shower all the time. The teachers for this age group are awesome... they have helped us transition him out of diapers and are motivated to teach the children rather than simply watch them. My only criticism of preschool/daycare in general is that your child will constantly be sick (but this is true of any school). The tuition here is also probably more than comparable programs. We also really enjoy watching him at home on 'guardiancam.'
I had to remove my daughter from this school due to problems with some aggressive toddler boys in her classroom. I brought the problem up to the principal, and nothing was done. The benefits are: very structured, clean facilities.
I read the two reviews and have to disagree with the parent who gave this school only three stars. Discovery Isle is a wonderful school. The teachers are highly educated and strive to include all of the children in all activities. Discovery Isle is at it suggests, a pre-SCHOOL. As all educators will tell you, children learn at their own pace and in their own time. 'Kids' as the parent said, cannot be forced to learn something that they are not ready for. If this one parent's child did not learn something, thier child simply wasn't ready. Discovery Isle has a highly academic program. All of the teachers are willing and ready to support us parents in trying to teach our children to become happy, fully functioning adults who can make educated decisions for themsevles.
Discovery Isle is primarily a daycare/preschool, but they have one kindergarten class which is awesome! The teacher is experienced, inspiring, and very personable. Children and parents alike respond to her gifts. She caters the material to each child's level and encourages them to excel and enjoy learning. The curriculum includes music, with a special music teacher weekly; art and cooking projects, with several special art units; daily Japanese instruction; vigorous recess with laps and/or soccer-type games encouraged. There is also weekly input from an outside PE/sports education program, There were several field trips and lots of parent involvement. This is a private school, with most of the spots filled by children coming out of their preschool program.
This centre is better for kids who love to play and enjoy. As far as academics are concerned, I feel teachers dont concentrate on the kids in particular. kids who are interested will learn, who wants to skip are just left according to their will but teachers dont draw them into education. I feel we pay a high fee for overall development of our kids rather than entertainment. If you are looking for day care this is the best choice but if you are looking for preparing your kids for 1st grade, we have to give it a thought before spending money.
