My daughter was lucky enough to attend TCDS for two years of preschool through pre-kindergarten. One of the most important things to share about TCDS is that the staff at TCDS really care about the kids. They take the time to really get to know each of the kids and understand what makes them tick. This was really important to me as my daughter was developmentally delayed as well as intellectually gifted so wasn't always where her peers were emotionally and behaviorally. So many other schools would have probably told us we weren't a great fit but TCDS really worked with us, listened and got to understand my daughter. She LOVED her teachers so very much. Academically, the curriculum is very much child-led. f you're looking for an academically heavy preschool, one that pushes the ABC's and 123's with a strict adherence to rote, then TCDS is probably not what you're looking for. Conversely, there's a lot of chance for collaborative exploration with lots of learning through play. Great school, possibly the best in East County! Highly recommended to anyone looking for quality early childhood education.
Hands down the BEST preschool in Anitoch, and all East Contra Costa County, I can't say enough good things about The Child Day School. My daughter attended TCDS for about 3 years, from the age of 2 to almost 5, and she really loves the entire staff, especially her last teacher. Located in a modern building designed specifically for young children (small toilets, low sinks, etc.) , TCDS looks and feels like a small school. There are separate classrooms with age-appropriate activities, equipment, and furniture. Kids are well-fed with a good lunch and healthy snacks throughout the day. Best of all, the outside doors have an electronic keypad that each family is given a unique PIN code to unlock, so not even the mail-man gets in here without security clearance! But I was even more impressed with the staff. Not only do they really care about the kids, but they understand how to encourage & redirect their behavior in a positive way, without punishment. The end result is that for 3 years, day in and day out, my daughter LOVED to go to school, and as a parent, that is absolutely priceless. TCDS is a wonderful preschool and I would HIGHLY recommend them to any parent.
The best kept secret in Antioch! My child loves this school and his teachers. We've been attending since he was 2 now he's in Kindergarten still attending but all grown up. The school has an incredible curriculum with project webs and individual learning in small groups. I've seen the growth in my son and couldnt have asked for more in a school. Thank you Child Day Schools!
